The staff are excellent especially the guy who is on at nights. They were happy to phone up restaurants and make reservations in French, recommend areas to go out drinking etc. The beds are unbelievably good - I practically went into a coma, had the best sleep I've had in a long time. Good insulation against street noise. Rooms are a little small but that's Paris for ya, so nothing new there. Wi-fi was free which is cool, it times out every 10-20 minutes which can be annoying if you're in the middle of booking a flight or something. Location is great - doesn't feel touristy at all, but is within 5-10 minute walk of Gare du Lyon and 5 mins from Bastille metro.
Very friendly and helpful staff - well designed room.
The staff was great and very helpful. The rooms were really really clean!
Very good sized bath and excellent shower. The location is pefect for explolring Paris but it's quiet too. No problems
The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was excelent The room was quite small
Could not fault this hotel - friendly, helpful, superior decor. I would definitely stay there again
A tranquil location in the centre of Paris. The staff are very patient and friendly and will do everything they can to help make your stay pleasant. Very modern and clean hotel. Nothing
Staff, location, cleanliness & comfort of room, A/C
nothing. just bed was comfortable. stuff is nice people. and safe hotel brackfast was poor. and expansive
cool design throughout - immaculate presentation - first class staff
The art design of the hotel is very cool and classy. The bed was super comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast wasn't anything to boast about. for 12 pounds it was only coffee, tea, pastry and cereal. There are cafe's within walking distances with a full breakfast.
Very close to metro station Too expensive for the quality. Air conditioning not working.
Great location. The hotel was going through reforms so they put us in a different hotel one day then moved to a room the next but the people in the front desk were not helpful at all.
Proximity to metros A lack of extras in the room eg mini bar, tissues. No postage stamps at reception
too few hangers
location, staff and cleanliness of the room
The location of the hotel is ideal. It's close to 2 metro stops and a major street with grocery store and many restaurants and shops around. It's also not far from the Marais neighborhood The cleanliness of the hotel was inconsistent.
The room is clean and looks recently renovated. Bathroom is surprisingly high-end and nice. Staff are excellent (and they speak English/French). Didn't try the breakfast but it seemed to be decent value. Room just contains beds, a desk, and a closet--it's quite small, but sufficient. Pillows were quite uncomfortable--hard and lumpy, and they seemed to be filled with recycled foam or something.
Location was excellent!! I would actually book this hotel again, only complaint really is the bed, but then again you get what you pay for! Hotel room was very clean, and really nice bathroom. One staff member who checked us in was very friendly, and then another one had a little attitude when asked something, but overall most of the staff greeted you as you entered the hotel.
the area (local shops restaurants etc.). close to metro. nice clean hotel with good breakfast.
place was good When I checked in, an empty bottle of the previous customer was left..
Location is excellent and so close to transportation Staff on check-in were absolutely rude and made one feel a complete inconvience. Generally staff were not very helpful. Hotel is reasonable value given Paris prices.
We liked the location, because it was close to the Seine and we needed to be at a boat for a nighttime cruise. The staff was not very friendly, they seemed bothered when we sought assistance, and there was no phone in the room able to call out.
The room was like a home away from home; nothing incredibly fancy but you feel right at home. It was nice to find a hotel that had a bath. The location was excellent and the staff very friendly. All the shops and bars are within walking distance. The room was fairly small but what do you expect for a city hotel – you’re not really spending that much time in there to be fair. The bed was very comfortable. The walls were very thin and you could hear dull conversations from the next room but it wasn’t intrusive. There was a really strong air freshener smell when we entered the room. Nothing wrong with a room smelling nice but this was very overpowering.
The hotel is very comfortable and the staff most helpful. It is near to a Metro station and very convenient to walk around much of Paris from the hotel.
The area and proximity to venues of interest
proximity to Le Marais rooms very clean a little noisy due to situation erratic daily change of towels, e.g. sometimes 2 bath towels, soem other times, on1 bath but 2 hand towels, at others, no hand towels....
location jr suite very small, room could have been cleaner, lift was slow to inoperable because it was the only for guest and cleaning staff
The staff was quite nice. Facilities were a bit average.
In the heart of Le Merais area and easy to go anywhere i liked
The location. I stayed for 2 nights and the first one we didn´t have hot water so not chance to have a shower. The room is really small and the renovation in 2009 is not real....
Location is convinient. Easy to get to Metro station and some of the sights with walking distance. In front of the Hotel there is a wonderfull fish restaurant, every wednesday they have Oysters party! Must visit!!! Small room and poor breakfast.
Convenient to metro and good restaurants. Room tastefully decorated with ample space. Good continental breakfast which is available at an extra cost.
hotel room was not clean when we arrived, very expensive for what it is
Our room was small with a low ceiling . The fact that we have to pay for internet wireless a very high prize . I expected it to be a free standard service.
Very good location, clean & nice breakfast. A good hotel for young people and families. A bit noisy, specially if you have active next door neighbours... Woudl not reccomend hotel to elder peaople.
proximity to metro stations and Paris nightlife; air-conditioning rooms are not soundproof
The reception staff were very helpful with directions. The location of the hotel. Smallish dark room (but we were given another when we complained)
Friendliness of staff and welcome we received. Room was a little small, though clean and comfortable.
Location was excellent! On good Metro lines, steps away from restaurants, le Marais, other attractsions. Very clean. Room was small but efficient. Hallways and stairs are made for skinny people. Everything worked, but I would like to have had a chair with a back on it, rather than a hassock to squat on at the desk. Poor wifi, like so many hotels. Hotel had power outage in the middle of the night and no one from reception told guests what to do. Reception did not answer the phone for what seemed like an eternity. Power was out in my room for 45 minutes late on a Saturday night. My room, hallway and stairs were completely dark. I assumed the rest of the hotel was out, too. Only light was a battery-operated sign in hallway pointing to dark, treacherous spiral stairs. After 30 minutes or so, hallway lights went on but not those in my room. Eventually, reception answered my calls and sent someone up to reactivate power. 45 minutes of not knowing what was going on at reception in hotel in the middle of downtown Paris during a time of highest security alert, with ongoing large street protests going on only blocks away! Dangerous and totally unacceptable. Breakfast was satisfactory, nothing special. My magnetic door key got scrambled and I asked reception to reactivate it so I could get into my room. Reception told me not to carry it around with me all day. Maybe I shouid have left it under the door mat? Overworked, undertrained people working the desk.
Location, standard of facilities, helpful and friendly staff The first room we were offered was not as good as our rooms in the past (5th stay here) we were moved immediately.
Friendly Staff. Good location. Excessive heat in the rooms. Bathtub had not a full size separation screen so it was difficult not to fill everything with water.
Bed and pillows were so comfortable. Staff friendly.
Friendly welcome 24hr concierge wasn't - almost didn't make it back into the hotel returning back one evening as he was fast asleep!
Free WIFI, great location, close to Rue Rivoli (shopping street) it has so many cafes and nearby restaurants and bars. Clean room and bathroom. nothing!
Responsiveness of the host to our needs. Rate seemed a little high for the quality of the hotel and its facilities
Castex Hotel is in an excellent location near both the Bastille as well as Marais districts. The gentleman working at the front desk was both cheerful and very helpful in offering suggestions for things to see and do in the area. The hotel felt worn out a bit. While there, the elevator stopped working for a couple of days and there were problems with internet connectivity. Also, the breakfast was not very good...essentially bread and cereal only...not worth the extra charge.
The location was excellent - A very short walk to the underground metro and the Place de Bastille The "suite" was very small and cramped for three adults. It was not worth the money. We stayed at hotels in London, Prague and Zurich. This was the most expensive and the most cramped of the three.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful, we loved the location and we really liked the fact we could make ourselves tea or coffee during the day in the dining room. We were very pleased with our stay!
A very nice stay at the Castex - the hotel is in a fabulous location for the Marais very close to Bastille and major sights. I had a small room (typical for Paris) off the courtyard but it was comfortable, well equipped and very warm in freezing temperatures. There were free newspapers available at reception and lots of good maps, etc. Breakfast was fairly basic but adequate. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Due to a general blackout in Paris we had no hot water one morning and the hotel offered a free breakfast to compensate - much appreciated given it wasn't their fault. A nice touch and one that shows they care about their guests! Room rather small but this is typical for Paris - tea/coffee facility in the room would be a nice touch.
The room although smallish was very comfortable, shower was fantastic. Very nice courtyard None
Friendly staff, comfortable room, good location
clean, with aa nice bathroom. good location. the room was somewhat small, which is to be expected for the price and location.
The hotel was really easy to find from the local metre Bastille. It was 200m away on a really good line. There was loads of places to eat and drink very close by. Would stay again. The room was realtively small but for a city break, you don't spend a lot of time in the room. Bathroom has loads of hot water and a great shower!
the room, very comfortable and clean. The location, only 1 minute walk to the bastille metro station. You even can walk to notre dame, approx 20mins walk..
Proximity to Metro. Hotel is at main road, rooms at the back are close to busy night club. Very poor value for money.
location it's close to gare de lyon & it's very clean the air conditioner in my particular room was not working properly. It was quite warm inside the room
Great location for transport system. 24 hour reception great for late arrivals. Room was very small for two adults and two teenage children, for the rate charged.
Location Being charged for breakfast that we didn't consume. It was easily rectified but still annoying.
Location is great. Walking distance to everything. Metro stop is one minute walk. Staff is friendly and helpful. Room is clean and large by Paris standards.
I had sent a complaint to Booking.com customer service regarding my experience at this hotel. Unfortunately my laptop is lost and cananot access mails. I will get back to you once i get full mail access and all deatils about my complaint.
Good location, staff were helpful. Nice clean modern hotel. Breakfast in room is cheaper than the buffet breakfast downstairs. As with all Paris hotels, expensive for what you get. If you are looking for a traditional Parisian charm, look elsewhere. The shower could never make up it's mind as to the water temperature.
The staff were very helpful, the decor was very tasteful and the location was excellent
situated with easy access to various areas and metro..Artist Market lent the area atmosphere
good-quality breakfast; good attitude of most of the staff small, compact room, esp. bathroom; maintenance less than good
Clean bathroom. Good location close to Bastille. English speaking front desk staff. Requirement to hand in key upon leaving the hotel (not for checkout but for a trip outside the hotel). This policy should be changed.
Great location and fantastic value for money. Very helpful staff.
very friendly staff, good position close to 2 of the main lines of the underground the room was a bit small
the beds, bathroom, location you had to hold the shower while showering, room is very small, too expensive, but then again all hotels in Paris are far too expensive
A charming hotel with good sized rooms. I expected smaller (being in Paris). Pleasant, helpful staff. Rooms are well appointed and sound proof. Close to tram stop.
It was clean and well-maintained, and also at a good location. Staff members were also very helpful. At Euro99 per night, it's good value for money. My room was next to the lift shaft, so a bit noicy at times.
Old,verz old towels!!!Yellow...
friendly services & professional touch Absence of English channels on TV
That breakfast was not included.
wxcellent location, nice rooms , very comfortable
I found the staff at the hotel very friendly and helpful
Location - bars and cafes, canal trip, metro all nearby but can also easily walk into Paris. Staff welcoming and helpful, room spacious and comfortable. Tha facility to make a hot drink in the room would have been very much appraciated.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The metro station was a short distance from the hotel, which made travel around the city relatively easy. Free wifi was nice to have. Breakfast was expensive for what it was so we only went one morning.
Nice people (managment-receiptionists) Fair price (through Bookings reservation, quiet room, near metro station.
Staff helpfulness Reception in the process of alteration
Hotel staff friendly. Rooms clean and modern and comfy despite being small. The bastille area where the hotel is situated is where all the riots in Paris take place. Having never seen a riot before. It was quite scary to see hundreds of rioters and police men running past your hotel window!!
the hotel was very quiet and clean. the small lift to the third floor
We had an amazing room for a small amount of money. The staff were very helpful and the room was cleaned properly everyday. The room was next to the lobby and was a little noisy for a few hours at night.
Excellent cleaning staff Charged for Internet and did not say so on website. Also too expensive.
Location was great. There were 2 bottles of water when we got to the room but there was no water offered to us after that. We ended up heating the tap water and chilling it outside the window before drinking it. Very beautiful room though. Friendly staff. Small room. No iron in the room.
very friendly staff very narrow elevator and staircase, no room for too much lageges.
Location. It was not "recently renovated", The furniture was shabby, the carpets stained, and the morning breakfast staff most unpleasant.
The staff was pleasant enough, and I did need a similar location. It was convenient to use booking.com. I did not like the fact that the hotel was overpriced, with the room so small it was impossible for two people to move around in the space. Rates seemed to vary wildly, based on which night was booked. The web site was somewhat deceptive as to what you were getting for that price. It was not a good value as compared to the others we stayed at in the same area, such as Hotel Nice and Hotel Place Des Vosges. The hotel lacked charm, convenience or value: any of the reasons for booking a 2 star place.
staff were very helpful and friendly, comfortable bed, good size room, clean, hotel located in quiet area, especially at night. (except that there's a school opposite, but it doesn't seem to start till after 8). roomy and clean bathroom with shower! very close to two metro stations. no space for suitcase except on the floor. small elevator that took us two trips to get our two bags up.
Location! Clean enouh! Price are UGLy! 0Verpriced very much! So small space for big money! Everyone want to live better on the west..but not like this way .....
It was in a fabulous position, in the heart of the Marais and close to the metro, but still relatively quiet. The "wake-up" callls were extremely unreliable.
Staff was great
Excellent location, clean room. The air conditioning made a horrendous noise (not the one in our room but the general air conditioning system, which meant there was no escape). The staff turned the whole system off at our request (luckily it was not very hot those days) but my impression was that this was an old problem that nobody was trying to sort out. So, if air conditioning is a must for you this may not be the best hotel.
Friendly staff. Big room for Paris. Close to metro and walking to Le marais district. Not luxurious, but good value for money. Great food near by. Elevator broke down while we were there and had 24/24 of walking up to 7th floor. However they fixed it promptly. And at least they had a lift!
Convenient location Smallness of room -- and the great difficulty of manhandling luggage in elevator and on awkward staircase.
The location vas excellent. The smell in the room.
The staff is very kind. The Hotel is situated near two metro stations. It's a good location to discover Parijs Breakfast could be more extensive.
Hotel was adequate. The breakfast for us was extra expense. Staff was not fluent in English.
Close to Metro stations, Sight seeings (like Notre Dame-15-20 mins walk), comfortable connections to GAre to Nord & rer to get to the airport
the hotel is clean and quiet and the location is quite good. the rooms are tiny and devoid of character, utterly bland and a bit cheap - no loo roll holder and a plastic tooth glass!
close to Paris-Lyon station
Good clean room Sloping ceiling (room was on top floor). Lift only went to 5th floor of 6.
It was centrally situated close to main train station and the staff were extremely courteous and helpful at all times.
The position and the quality of the beds. The dimensions of the bedroom are too short.
The hotel is near by Centrum of paris, and Metro station, The starff was frendly and speaking English, the breakfast was OK, but a bit expencive. Just for information. The stairs was small and the elevator only for one person, not good whit an handicap, The bed was hard.
compare to other Parisian hotels it is new, however it is "Ikea" new, do not think it is a design hotel...It is convenient if you are staying for couple of days, not the kind of hotel where you can have the ultimate Parisian experience though... when arrived we have been told that our reservation was cancelled, surprisingly the same incident happens to our other friends as well... after giving us an hour long stress, somehow the receptionist succeded to find a double room on the first floor -which she called "a great favor"-, although on my initial reservation I clearly requested a twin room on the 3rd or 4th floor to avoid the noise..
The young gentleman on reception was lovely, really helpful, he made our stay really pleasant. Room was clean and quite large. The breakfast
Cool hotel, nice design, free internet, hot staff No drawer space for clothes, could not switch on just bedside light
Excellent value for such a central location. A wonderful antidote to fussy hotel rooms. Clean, comfortable and pleasant design. A good breakfast delivered to the room. The only thing it lacked was a full length mirror.
The room design is nice. The black&white scheme makes for a clean, modern look. We got upgraded to a "double lux" room, which I assume is slightly bigger than a standard room (though it only had one window, while the other rooms had two). The bed was very comfortable. Some compromises seem to have been made for the sake of design: no stationary, no shower curtain, no alarm clock. Despite the lack of an alarm clock, there was no chance of sleeping in: there is a church right across the street that starts tolling its bells at 8am. It's a bit of a walk to the metro.
Staff spoke reasonable English in reception. Breakfast room friendly and helpful. Fresh towels available every day. We opted for a twin-bedded romm which was reasonable but not spacious. There was a bad smell from the carpet near the window, so we asked to change rooms. We were given the keys to a double but this was considerably smaller than our original room. We stayed in our twin room, and the smell was dealt with on our second day. Weather was warm (30+) throughout our stay, and the air con was not always available at night, and was quite poor when it was on. No tea/coffee facilities in rooms.
Bed, breakfast, lovely and friendly staff, excellent location. none
The central location to the Bastille and facilities. Can be noisy at night, but this did not affect us at all.
The beds were very comfortable. The location is perfect. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Nicely decorated hotel. My room was small and a little dark and stuffy. I could hear every word people said in the corridor and banging doors every time someone went into or came out of their room. No minibar in room.
The place where the hotel is situated, the contemporary look No thing i didn't like at all ...
Comfortable room, good bed, shower with great water pressure, excellent location to key Paris areas of interest Lack of free wifi and need to purchase online time - computer for guest use was old and slow
Great walking access to sights, as well as to 5 Metro lines. Close to lots of great food too. Large room and bathroom with good shower. My bed was a little hard. Consider adding a feather mattress cover.
This was the 2nd time I have stayed at the hotel. I like the location in the Marais, it is in a quiet area but close to a lot of places. It has reasonable prices for central Paris. I like that it is small and the staff are friendly and helpful.
It was close to city tourist sights and the Seine River so were able to travel within the city easily. Staff were very helpful providing information when asked. We had a very small room the first night of our first booking, when we returned after a week the room size was better, but we chose a superior size room.
The location was excellent. Easy to shops, metro, entertainment. Very helpful inkeepers. Quaint and romantic.
My room was preety big, and the bathroom was excellent! The metro station of Sully Morland was quite close, what was a nice but I wouldn´t stay there again. I found some leftovers from previous ccupants (hairclips, pins, etc) on the floor what made obvious that the room hadn´t been cleaned. My room was in a 4th floor and there was no lift what made the arriving (and leaving) a bit painfull...
Very helpful staff, gave excellent recommendations. Also very nice breakfast. One of the 3 rooms we had booked had mould in the shower. The rest was OK>
Excellent location, great value, helpful staff, our double superior room was spacious for a Paris hotel room, great hot water pressure, sound-proofed windows and relatively quiet street, wonderful area restaurants, shopping, and convenient to Metro. We will stay there again. This historic hotel does not have an elevator nor air-conditioning which we knew when we booked the hotel. It would be helpful if they added towel racks to the nicely tiled bathrooms so that you can use the towels more than once. Also, they need to add free wi-fi, but no major complaints.
Traditional feel of the Hotel, its quiet location, while being close to interesting things to see and walk around. Handy for shopping, markets, les deux isles. The staff were very nice and efficient. The bath was a bit shabby. Maybe because the weather was so cold it would have been good to have had a rug to put ones feet on on getting out of bed!
Genuine air of the Marais district. Nice staff. Rooms are quite modern. Little noise from outside or neighbouring rooms. No guest elevator. Bathroom is cramped. Only 1 hour breakfast opening time. Broken light fixture. Stairwell is a bit tatty. Few amenities; E.G. bar, pool, etc.
