Of course the flight to China was a much larger airplane a Boeing 747, where flight to Sfo was a 737-800 and a smaller Air bus. All my flights made it to destination on time. Or close to it. You should plan on at least 1&1/2 hours between transfers. SFO was under staffed at security long lines, and empty desks. Beijing & Soul airports had smaller lines. The Visa free transit at Beijing worked well."
Contras: "Long time through customs and security especially when transferring from one plane to another. We had carry on luggage but still had to go through baggage claim and exit before transferring to the next flight."

The food was atrocious, the media system was broken, there was not wifi, and they did not allow the use of cellphones the entire duration of the flight even in airplane mode. The ground staff was completely unhelpful. I was barely able to secure an alternative flight home after about a half hour of negotiating. I don't think I could have got the flight at all had I not spoke Chinese. None of the other foreign nationals were able to get a new flight. The flight they put on back home had to stop in Hawaii and cost me a good extra 8 hours. I got home 12 hours later than I had anticipated. I am filing for compensation. What a joke. Air China shouldn't even both with international flights if all their domestic flights are delayed and they are barely able to help customers speaking their native language (to say nothing of English)."

The food was dreadful and the portions were skimpy. The major food groups were white bread and white rice. The entertainment console was supposed to operate by touch but was unresponsive. The movies were 90 percent Chinese. I won't fly Air China again."

They have around 250 people jammed into small space, where we had to board a bus to the tarmac and board the aircraft using the stairs carrying our carry ons. At the boarding gate the personnal were mainly giving out instructions in Chinese and people like us had no clue what was happening. There were two lines formed for passengers to check in, when I got to the front of the line the lady said I had to go to the other line as the line I was in was for business class and First class. This is to board the bus to take you to the aircarft. Again there was no clear announcements saying which line was which!!!"
Contras: "They serve the same food for both meals, and on all other flights. I got sick of chicken and rice, pork and rice, and noodles. The seats are the most uncomfortable I've dealt with on an international flight. And my luggage didn't make the connection for my Beijing-NY flight, so I had to deal with lost luggage after waiting at the baggage claim for a long time. Luckily, I live in NY and could have my luggage delivered later that night. Other people were not so lucky and were told FedEx would get it to them 4 days later. However, having said all that, I feel like you get what you pay for, and I got an incredible deal on this round-trip flight."

They only came around four times – once before the two meals and once after – and they only filled up the small cup about half way each time. I left the plane dehydrated after the first flight. On the return trip, I bought a bottle of water in the terminal to take on the plane, but they confiscated it at the gate. I've never had that happen before, especially since I bought it past security in the Beijing airport. Since they took it, I probably annoyed the flight attendants with how much I asked for water, but I didn't really care."
Prós: "Overall, pretty great flights with this airline. We were delayed but ended up boarding earlier than expected which was nice. Our flight had plenty of food and beverage opportunities which was nice although don't expect anything out of this world, it's airplane food after all."
