hotel staff and clean the Spa
soft and comfirtable bed You have to pay for everything such as internet, phone calls, TV, etc. Service was poor. Prices are relatively much higher than other similar hotels.
Location and staff Internet services not included in package
central position for visiting amsterdam Impersonal feeling with pseudo design furniture
good location, great comfortable beds and nice gym and sauna area
location There internet.
Great geographic location Fee parking for the car Fitting out of the hotel entry not indicated on website. Worse soundproofing of the room windows.
very comfortable bed and soft sheets front door was not working so had to use side door
Nothing !!! Center of Amsterdam
The hotel was pretty fine, clean and with good style. Very close to the center. The room was big enought for all family. We didn't got any breakfast at hotel, but during the boat cruise, the stop is very close to the hotel. Miss the boiler for have some tea in the room. The remote control of TV almost died.
amazing interior with best in class everything
The hotel has a trendy, designy look and staff seemed friendly enough. There's a neat garden in the back and a they have a cozy lounge with descent drinks. I had high hopes for this property upon arrival, but overall was let down. I had the hotel dry clean three silk items, all of which were ruined. It took me over a week to get them to resolve it and in the end, they only paid out 75% of the replacement cost. We were put in a disabled accessible room located right by the elevator (despite not requesting an accessible room). It was loud, the accessible shower allowed water to get all over the bathroom floor. The vanity outlet in the bathroom wouldn't work and it took them coming out two times to fix it, leaving me unable to do my hair both mornings we were there. Upon arrival, the woman who greeted us (and was apparently training) said that welcome drinks were complimentary for guests. When the man training her joined her to do our check-in in the lounge, he asked if we were in town for anything special. I mentioned it was for my husband's birthday weekend and he offered to "cover our drinks." This seemed odd given the woman had just told us they were complimentary. Not sure if he was being underhanded or if the woman training was just mistaken. The whole thing struck me as odd.
Historical hotel. Excellent service. Bed and pillow were not comfortable.
Very nice, staff was very helpful and professional.
hotel staffs are very helpful, the room is great, clean and comfortable. we booked double room, it's big! the location is great, easy to go to station or airport, we can catch the bus just in front of the hotel. nothing
The location is perfect and the American Bar is the ideal place to hang out for a few hours in the evening. I would like to see more variety on the food menu in the bar.
Fantastic position and quality of facilities Nothing
location + staff the bed wasnt comfortable
Pretty good overall. Very nice cafe-restaurant in the same building. Outrageous internet fee and even worse service when you wnat to use hotel computers
we enjoyed the service & stlye of the staff, the room was out of this world with the most comfortable bed & fantastic views from the balcony, the location was ideal for what we wanted & would recommend the hotel to anyone.
It is comfortably situated near public transport services and the city centre. Its value for money was less than poor. It boasted an incredibly expensive breakfast, admittedly including sparkling wine, which for my purpose of stay, however, was totally redundant. With the no more than fair comfort offered, the price ought to have included a humble breakfast as well as complimentary Internet access for hotel guests.
Great location - couldn't be better!
Centraly located, tram stop, restaurants and shops straight outside the door
close proximity to tourist destinations. Hotel was within walking distance of major tourist attractions.
Wow, what a lovely hotel. We have stayed in the Picasso and Schubert suites both of which are delightful. All the staff are very helpful, friendly and so attentive. We didn't want to leave such was the care we received. Looking forward to our next trip to Amsterdam!! Too many cakes and pastries with the tea/coffee. I've put on a couple of kilos in weight since staying there!!
Eclectic, distinctive, welcoming atmosphere. Private club feel to the public spaces. All inclusive of wireless, minibar, house wines and breakfast. Room (bathroom especially) a little old-fashioned.
The location and common areas were lovely We were in room 8. The loo was tiny - luckily we are both thin. Anyone over 6 feet tall or 12 stone would stuggle to sit on it.
sometimes it took a long time to do simple things,, ie check out took 10-15 minutes.. breakfast was no real hurry
Although the hotel is located very close to shopping and dining streets, the hotel was very quiet throughout the day and night. The hotel was well decorated and had a very pleasant ambient. The room and the private bathroom where we stayed were clean, modern and well-sized. We loved the many large windows in the room which kept the interior bright and cool during our stay in the hot month of July. We had 3 minor dislikes - (1) The hotel did not have proper air- conditioning (during the hot month of July). Instead the hotel provided a cool air dispensing machine (mobile type) to cool the room. This machine has an exhaust duct that must be placed through a window to the exterior of the room. When the machine is running, the duct prevented us from closing the window completely during the some nights to keep out the mosquitos. (2) The staff, although always polite and friendly, were not able to help us to book tickets to the main museums. (3) There were no variations in the breakfast. We had the same offering during our five days stay in the hotel.
great location, fantastic rooms, drinks from the minibar and breakfast are always included in the room rates which was a very positive surprise. This is a better experience than most 5 star hotels I stayed at!
Location is great. Clean Standard rooms are a bit small but great for a couple. Staff is very professional. Concierge is great with recommendations
Staff at reception and night porters were very helpful and friendly. The 'living room' area is well designed to be modern yet comfortable, the range of books available to look at was excellent. The location is excellent - Leidseplein is a stone's throw away and there are lots of really great places to eat. The Museums are also just around the corner, and tramlines are a 5 minute walk away. Sometimes we had to wait quite a while for our presence to be acknowledged and orders taken in the 'living room'. Also, a couple of times staff entered our room after hardly knocking or giving us time to reply! I think the rates are quite expensive when you consider that they do not include breakfast and the charge for web access is huge!
The location was excellent for visiting the Museums and good selection of cafes and restaurants nearby. Canal boat trips right outside hotel entrance. The room was cramped and somewhat claustrophobic. The cost of the room was far too expensive for the size and no breakfast included.
MOMO I was not happy at all with the bed and I ended sleeping on the floor because the matress was really bad.I paid 160 € and I think the bed should be comfortable.I was not happy with the answer of your staff saying that the bed for standard rooms.I was that close to go down to the reception with the matress to show it to all.
Location and staff were great. Breakfast although pricey was huge! Very decent! Very clean and comfy bed. Room was modern although the "non-divided"/private bathroom may be an issue to non-couples. Some of the toiletries where empty.
From a tourist perspective the location of this hotel is very good indeed, it is just metres from the great galleries and Vondel Park, and close to Jordaan. The #197 trolley bus around the corner opposite the Van Gogh museum takes you to Schiphol in 30 minutes for 5 euro (pay as you get on), every 1/4 hour, and trams #2 and #5 take you to the main railway station. Despite being on the relatively busy Stadhoudekade street, the hotel is quiet. The rooms are clean, very comfortable, slightly but not overly cramped, idiosyncratic in design, with air conditioning that works. The staff are intelligently helpful, switched on, and very pleasant. I think that is a Dutch thing anyway. I took the 'with breakfast' option. I recommend it. All this comes in at about $210/night per room including taxes. There are plenty of cheaper places around but if you are in Amsterdam for a couple of days and want a faultless, quiet, reliable, central place to stay, this is a good candidate to consider, and worth the money if you have it. The only thing that I wasn't keen on was the Momo restaurant that is attached to the hotel. It is a Sushi only restaurant, so if Sushi is not what you want, too bad. We ate there one evening and while the Sushi itself was no doubt excellent, it was expensive for what it was - as in my opinion Sushi tends to be. If you like a rank of chefs attending minutely to each bite, and lots of pretty waitresses regularly asking if you need anything, or don't really mind about the cost, that's fine, enjoy it and pony up liberally at the end. Otherwise, don't come to this place too hungry, or with kids, this one is for the up-market purists. There are better places nearby, serving quality food of other types for quite a lot less.
The location is perfect. We recieved a warm welcome upon arrival, and was please try suprised at the accomodations. The bed was very comfortable, view perfect, and the room size would meet or exceed any standards. Literally the best location for a brief walk to vo delpark, museums, de hallen, red light district, and tram stops. There is no pool, but for us we didn't care. The lobby was warm, as is standard in most of holland, but rooms are well air conditioned.
Close te citycenter Bed en cushions to soft. Bad smell
Cleaning staff was nice. Water leaked from my ceiling onto me in the middle of the night. managenent was totally unhelpful.
Next door to museums and across the street from canal, cruises and casino Very helpful and professional staff and excellent restaurant on site (MOMO). Clean, well appointed room of adequate size. Highly recommend Road traffic could be heard but not a significant negative
- Proximity to Amsterdam's famous museums - Comfort of the bed - Size of the bathroom (we got a handicapped room) - Availability of luxurious toiletries - Clean, well-kept rooms - Friendly staff - DELICIOUS hot chocolate - Free, reliable wifi - Room itself was a little small - Cleaning staff arrived at 8am
Excellent breakfast Look and feel of room and hotel, just plain beautiful View from room Narrow bed Very load ventilator built in wall TV without teletext
The Hotel was in a great location!! The hotel was clean and decorated nicely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bar wasn't open during our stay due to referbishment and we didn't have breakfast there so I can not comment on food. However i would go back to this hotel again and probably will next year.
The location was perfect to tour the city and yet be out of the congestion of the Dam. Lots of restaurants, shops, public transportation and access to museums and art. The hotel bar was not open and under construction. It would have been nice to have an inhouse place to relax with a glass of wine.
Location is great and central - but also noisy Needs urgent renovation. Rooms somewhat filthy.
The location is great if you want to be by the Leidseplein. The staff is friendly. The cost is low. The hotel was represented on Kayak as a four star, but this is a 2-3 star economy hotel. It is bare bones with little service and dated accommodations. At night you can hear everything from the street and the aged elevator was broken for the second half of our stay. Bags are kept in an open room off a hallway like a hostel, not secured and tagged.
The reception area; the comfortable bed; the cleanliness and efficient heating of the room; the view (we were on the 5th floor); the location; the breakfast An occasional strange smell in the room; the fact that emptying the bath flooded the bathroom floor; the general blandness of the room (it could have been in any city centre hotel); the need to update furnichings and decor
The central location is perfect for Americans wanting to be close to the Leidessttraat shopping district, and is in the heart of the canal-ring district as well. Its proximity to the cafes and coffee-shops that made Amsterdam famous, the little restaurants, etc. is amazing... only one-half block from the famous Rokerij coffee-shop! It is three blocks from the Cafe American, at the American Hotel; it is three blocks the other direction from the heart of Amsterdam's designer district. In summary, the ideal location to experience Old Amsterdam. While room service and an amazing restaurant, as well as the bar being opened after its current renovation might have made the stay more pleasant, the low pricing would not have been possible.
Good location, great sized room, friendly and helpful staff. Whilst it didn't bother us too much, other people may find that the street noise is a bit much and goes on until quite late. The windows when closed do shut most of it out though. Obviously there isn't a great deal the hotel can do about this.
Perfect location. We shopped every day because it was too much easy to get hotel. Our room was a little bit cold so we ordered an extra blanket but it was dirty and smelling.
Convenient, nice neighborhood setting with a congenial atmosphere nearby. The wireless was only available through T-Mobile and required a separate account. That wasn't clearly explained.
Hotel is close to city square & walking distance to everywhere. Lots of shops & places to eat nearby. Our room had a canal view & had plenty of space. Beds looked kind of shabby but were comfortable & I slept well. We were not able to check in early but were able to leave our bags with front desk. We only spent one night after Viking River Cruise & did not eat at the restuarant. Staff was friendly. About a $50 ride from airport but this may be standard for most of Amsterdam since the airport seems out of the city a way.
The friendlyness of the staff was second to none, and it was absolutly beautiful room
Staff were brilliant, Location, Value for money
Total confusion on check in and taken to sister hotel, (Roumer) Very little explanation. The room though was very nice and on a quiet street so maybe in the end it all worked out. Just the check in experience, staff also seemed vague about the wherebaouts of another hotel that I had to attend the next day and would have sent me to a completely different place, if I hadn't double checked myself.
Staff were very helpful and easygoing. Breakfast was very nice. noise from adjacent rooms, having to carry my bags up and down very narrow and steep staircases. The lifts were so small, I could not fit in with my luggage, and had to be in the lift to push the button.
The hotel is superbly situated just off the Leidesplein and easy walking to the main shopping streets and bars The room was a little style over function and the double bed was 2 singles pushed together. It was also a little noisey, not to bad but depends on your neighbours as the rooms are connected by a joining door and the walls are not thick.
not a nice welcome. changed room three times before we got an acceptable room
Fabulous location. I walked everywhere. Easy to catch the Conexxion shuttle bus to and from airport-5 Euros! Staff helpful. Room is soooooo tiny. Compact-like the size of a king sized bed-only that the entire room. I managed and I was alone. if I had booked for 2 people it would have been interesting.
Nice room, bedding, etc., convenient location, and helpful staff. Room 101 (below street level) would not connect to the wifi and was below the reception/lobby area, so you heard steps/luggage overhead.
great location, nice staff, nice rooms, great atmosphere. I'll be happy to come again. no aircondition in the room which is a problem when the weather is hot. when opening the window you sometimes suffer noise from the street.
location is great, very central, easy to access everywhere the room we stay is super small, and the stairs were super thin. in d room we can see dust! can hardly move anywhere. too small for 2 persons. it looks boutique from the outside, but the is not. not value for money at all comparing to other hotels around that area.
Location Too hot
Beautiful hotel, Room cleaning is handled all day long, not as usual only in the morning. This is not optimal if you have children who need to sleep in the afternoon
The staff at the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. While remaining professional they were warm and welcoming. My son would often join me for a drink after work and we enjoyed sitting in the living room of the lobby. At breakfast one member of the staff (Sau (?) always remembered what I liked and greeted me with smile and a cup of coffee. All and all, I could not have been more pleased in terms of the facility, location, and personel. My rooms were attractive, but in both, 21 and ? the closet was practically inaccessible. One must sit on the bed to open the doors.
Location was brilliant - quiet but just around the corner to lively square. Hotel clean, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast great, rooms fantastic!
friendly staff and clean throughout. rooms slightly tight
Lovely boutique hotel that lived up to the description on website. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. A very minor point but would have expected more luxurious bathroom products to live up to the luxurious standard of bedroom and bathroom!
The room was huge and beautiful, the bathroom was amazing with a double headed rain shower and a separate jacuzzi and double sinks. We had a king sized bed, which in our room was just 2 towns pushed together, but it was very comfortable and nice. The walls were a little thin and we had a room with a window on the street so we heard a lot of people walking by at night both outside the hotel and inside the hotel. The TV was mounted on a wall next to the bed, rather than facing the bed, so that was a little awkward.
good location - near museums and public transporation cost of breakfast
Very central position - comfortable hotel. Didnt think necessary for towels to be taken away everyday especially as they were then never replaced!
Location and very attentive staff. Paying for internet access in room.
The staff was friendly and helpful. They spoke excellent English and Dutch. The location was excellent and close to P.C Hooft Straat, which I think should be emphasized in the hotel manual/guide. The hotel was also right next to the Vondel park. It was close enough to the leidseplein for a short walk but far enough to away from the rowdiness. The complimentary liquor in the room was highly appreciated. The toiletries should be replenished every day, especially shampoo and body soap. The proximity of my room (room 18) to the service area meant that early in the morning I could hear the breakfast serviced being prepared quite clearly. The door and insulation for rooms close to the kitchen should be thicker. The curtains on the windows were blackout curtains which were nice, but I would have also preferred there to be curtains through which light can pass through to help adjust to the new timezone. It was either completely dark or completely exposed with these curtains - and being right next to the hotel courtyard meant that the windows were at eye level for anyone there.
Front office staff were very helpful, within their capacity to solve problems - for instance, how best to get somewhere. Some, such as an internet system that was constantly breaking down, were not within their capacity. Cramped bedroom - no proper hanging space. Internet access very poor. Safe did not lock. Only one tiny piece of soap was offered. Lighting was very poor in rooms - difficult to read. No ironing board. Air-conditioning unreliable - public spaces overheated. Much more concerned with appearance than functionality.
Guests are given unlimited free drinks (of any sort) and snacks are always available. The hotel is advertised as having a restaurant. There is room service (very good) and hot breakfasts to order, but a restaurant for dinner is in a sister hotel down the block.
The staff are very nice and helpful. Location is close to the main tram line which will take you to any major attractions. I love their breakfast which has a very wide and generous selection of food, and ham. I'll absolutely stay in this same hotel again. Thank you NH!
Comfortable rooms and attentive staff. The front desk was very helpful upon our arrival in helping to orient ourselves as well as providing restaurant suggestions.
We liked the location of the hotel and the staff which was very helpfull and nice. When we came to the hotel, we got the room which was not cleaned yet but then, after informing the reception thereof, we were upgraded to a better room, so we couldn´t complain at all.
Staff was very helpful. Decent size rooms. Great breakfast Small bar
I would like to have breakfest already at 6:30 AM
Great location. Easy access to tram and canal boats. Room was very clean and nice. Also bed was very comfortable. Staff and bell captain were very helpful and nice upon arrival. Made us feel very welcome and safe. Nothing.
I cannot recommend this hotel I pre-paid this hotel via booking.com (14-Sep-10). However on check-out after a two night stay (11-11-10 / 13-11-10), I discovered that NH Amsterdam Centre had charged my card for the full amount (561.70 euro) a second time! As of 18/11/10 I have not received a refund. Will never stay in an NH Hotel again! I advise if you stay in this hotel, check your credit card statements when you get home!
Hotel is located in the center of the town 5 min walking distance to Rijksmuseum. Basic amenities are there, all relatively new. Rooms are on the smaller side but can't expect more given the location. Very clean and well maintained. When asked the staff were I can park the car they have sent me to a parking that costed 68 Euro for the night without even mentioning the price (paid at the exit in the morning). Extremely slow internet almost unusable.
location, breakfast price too high, some stuff very cool and distanced, water in the shower hardly warm (for 4 star hotel this is disgrace), hotel is not at all luxurious, very boring and no atmosthere, no price list for mini bar; hotel cosmetics very poor quality; the only good thing about this hotel is location;
The location of NH Amsterdam is excellent. The staff was not friendly and they have passed much inaccurate information to me during my stay. The rooms are very small
The location is very convenient to go to all touristic places.
Great and comfortable hotel. Conveniently located near restaurants, bars, shops!
The hotel was really nice, breakfast OK. Good location. We did not like the beds. Quite short + not too comfortable.
Location is good and away from noise and crowds. Basic and small rooms. Very helpful staff. Very good price. Heating was not enough for the room. There was a weird smell when we first entered the room.
Cleanliness, location, friendly staff. Hotel pub nice feature Austerity of rooms. Comfortable but basic. This is not a complaint. I appreciated the value for dollar spent.
The staff were very helpful and the Hotel is in a great location for the sorts of things we wanted t do and see. The double bed room was alot smaller than we thought it would be.
Friendly Staff Small room, noisy at night, disturbed sleep expensive
Friendly staff, excellent location The mattresses were too firm for me - the bed was not comfortable
Rooms are too smal to breath.
Friendly staff, clean room, plenty of space (but we were staying with 2 people in a family room for 4) We had to pay to use the locker.
Well located across the road fom Rijksmuseum. The room was small and a little shabby, but clean.
Very clean and tidy. Location very close to museums and out of the dodgy part of Amsterdam. Convenient transport. Helpful staff. Generous breakfast. Very small rooms, bathroom extremely small. 3 of us managed to bump our heads on the television shelf which was close to the bed. Some noisy residents. Scary lift and very steep stairs with dodgy old handrails (I got a splinter). Not much choice at breakfast.
Room was at floor level and too noisy.
The hotel is in a very good location for the main museum and entertainment districts of Amsterdam. The rooms are simple yet comfortable and the facilities of the hotel are reasonable. The breakfast continental was acceptable for the price. For the price I'd normally expect tea and coffee facilities in the room.
Awesome room at agreat price! NO
it has an excellent location. i find that it is typical of most hotels in amsterdam rooms small, smoking of dope in hotel even though not permitted. there was noise on some nights from other rooms.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Quiet street in the center of Amsterdam. Clean room. Small room (1 person), but this is not really a problem if you just need a place to sleep.
The location was excellent. Walking distance to all the major attractions, friendly staff. Hotel was clean, room adequate. The ceiling in the room and bathroom was too low. My husband is 6'4" and kept hitting his head= could not stand up straight in the shower. Also, the doors could use closers...you could hear doors slamming late at night from neighbors coming in late.
For sure Location!! Just was what we looking for. Good ratio price/hotel!! If an other trip in Amsterdam will book in this hotel. Was a bit noisy for people who would like to stay longer in a bed. Also cannot closed the window and the room was street side even if it's a quiet street.
The staff has been very helpful Our room had only a small window facing a wall (about 40 cm from the window)
I think the hotel staff was very nice and helpful, and the hotel in general was excellent compared to the cheap prices. The location was very good, near the pub area and near a tram station, but still the street was quiet and no trouble to get to sleep. I would wish that the bathroom was a bit warmer.
It is a small, nice and homelike hotel
Very friendly staff, lovely welcome and room was ready at 11.30am which after an early morning flight was great. Couldnt have wished for better - very clean, room excellent, lovely breakfast selection, fantastic location for sightseeing.
Location. Parking. Hotel advertises that they have "parking permits"; but they don't. You park on the street for 36 Euros/day.
Very convenient to museums. Also close to Leidseplein for entertainment, dining and transportation. Althought the breakfast and lounge areas were nicely appointed the decor in hallways and rooms is rather stale (though in good condition).
The hotel was simple and basic and priced very fair. My single room was tiny and had a little single bed, but it was what I expected for a low price. Since I was traveling alone and spent very little time in my room all I cared about was that the room seemed safe and clean; it was definitely both of those. The employees were all very friendly and polite as well!
Great location on a quiet street. We will go back another time.
The staff was the best, very friendly & helpful! My 7 year old daughter loved the sitting area of the lobby too. The location is great!
the staff was very friendly and helpful
The staff was very nice, and there was a good atmosphere We couldn't eat the breakfast due to dietary restrictions - although we told it to them in advance, they still made us pay for breakfast.
The staff are very friendly It's ideally situated for my work Other noisy, ignorant guests - nothing that the hotel can do about that!
Perfect location, excellent staff, good value for money. room was close to elevator so a bit noisy in the morning if you want to sleep longer.
Convenient location, staff and facilities available for wide range of hours. Staff friendly and helpful.
Breakfast! Comfy bed Ideal location Outdated decor
location the elevators wasn't working . it was really hard to get luggages to the room..
location small room without a window, used condoms in the room, no towels in the room
The location Poor service and facilities even poorer
Basically nothing, the afernoon crew changed bed linnen upon request. Bedlinnens were very dirty, afternoon staff at arrival was nice, then the morning front desk crew was incerdibly rude, not just to us but other guests too. The price we paid was way to high. The elevater was broken and i am sure still is, we had to climb winding steep stairs up to the second floor. It said that there is parking, well, if you have money to burn, yes. At 4€ an hour it gets very expensive. There is NO street level access to the building the stone steps are steep and high. No handicap acces or even stroller capability. The rooms are tiny, no soap, barely any toiletpaper.
Front desk staff was top notch. He spent 2 hours with me to resolve issue. Location Elevator broken 65 degree stair cases Feels (perception) dirty, uncomfortable OLD infrastructure
Location. Small, dirty rooms. Difficult, steep steps. Thin walls, can hear through them. Never again.
The breakfast was great! The air conditioning consisted of a small table fan, which did not do much for cooling off the room. The shower was extremely small, and I had to tie up the shower curtain to avoid hitting it while I was using the sink.
Close to everything Room was dirty- took off top layer blanket b/c it was stained with whi knows what. Bathroom had hair all over sink and floor. We stayed on lower level so there was a seperate door with access to street. The door lock was broken so anyone could get into hotel hallway. We reportedit to the front desk on the first night and nothing was fixed by next night so we followed up again- they never fixed it and didn't come across as if they cared.
Good location. Cold, old furnished & really small room (also it is not the cheapest and smallest room of the hotel)
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very small, which is ok, but the shower was 6 inches from the toilet. The shower water flooded the whole bathroom because there was nothing separating the shower. Overall, not very clean - gunk on the glasses, hair on the sheets, soap dispenser was empty.
Nice staff, friendly and polite. View from room was nice, and room had a tv with one or two british channels Room was very small, shared bathroom, squeaky floor boards, duvet cover had a folded blanket in it but i knew not to expect much so it wasn't too bad.
We were lucky and had a nice wiew from the room to Singelgracht, boats and the towers of Rijskmuseum. The hotel quiet, close to everything and threre is an elevator in the building. My daughters were less lucky, their (economy double) room faced to a crane in the backside of the building where a reconstruction was in progress. Anyway, my daughter disn't bothered themself, instead they flirted with the crane operators through the window.
