Fantastic location Breakfast was served a bit late
The location is stunning
on top of Marvao! the shower is very small
One of the most beautiful locations in the world and very reasonable price, relaxed, kind and helpful staff. A very good experience. The hotel could do something to improve breakfast. I notice other reviewers have said the same.
The location ! It's inside the city of Marvao and you feel as on the top of the world :-) ! The room was big and charming. It's very quite also.
Short walk to the cathedral .Clean and comfortable. Secure car parking available. A bit noisy from traffic and the outlook on to delelict building was not attractive.
1) Fantastic location. 2) The hotel building was quaint and charmingly simple. It is, and felt like, a family home. 3) Friendly atmosphere The lounge area could be a little more organised.
The place was very hospitable and the location was stunning. Helpful staff with advice about exploring and eating in the odd, unique village where Dom Dinis is situated. Easy parking at the hotel. No grocery shops available in the village. But that wasn't the hotels fault :-)
The hotel is located just in front of Marvao's fortifications. Very nice breakfast. The friendly owners operate a very useful bar serving even full meals, There's a terrace overlooking the countryside. Furniture is rather slap-dash (bare light bulbs), space tight.
Perfectly clean and wonderful. Facility is nice. Nothing.
situation and fantastic view from room - the one in the web site information could not open the drawers in wardrobe! a small niggle
People were always extremely friendly, helpeful, the food was excelent and the hotel was very quiet, which is what I was looking for.
The position was fantastic in this wonderful village. Reception was very helpful and heaps of parking right outside. Breakfast was good and we were so glad we booked and came here even tho it was a twisting mountain road ujp to the village.
Hotel was charming with fantastic views. Staff were very helpful. We asked where we could find petrol in very broken Portuguese and the manager told us, but as he was worried we might not have understood, found someone who came and explained it to us in perfect English during dinner. It would be nice to have an electric kettle in the room for making coffee/tea. The restaurant was good but not as fantastic as others we found in the area (but in Marvao itself was the only one that seemed to be open in the evening in January). Breakfasts were very good, except for the very artificial orange juice, yuck.
We were made to feel very welcome by the staff, who were efficient without being intrusive. We particularly liked the way in which the rooms were decorated and furnished and thought that the restaurant food was exellent. Our five year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed his stay.. While we enjoyed good service we felt that our waitress in the restaurant stood too close to our table (we were the only diners that night) to the extent that we felt slightly intimidated. She was though exceedingly friendly and helpful and also spoke English.
Excellent facilities for a small country inn - evn monogrammed towel and pillows!. Located inside the walls of this beautiful fortified town it has air-con and wi-fi in the rooms. Restaurant is good too. TV channels are a bit fuzzy
the hotel is peaceful and quiet. try to get a room with view into the beautiful Alentejo landscape. there are also 2 rooms with little roof-terraces. these might also be nice to have.
Good restaurant serving regional dishes.
Position. Staff not very friendly.
Lovely location and views Plumbing system very noisy from time to time !
location booking.com screwed me. The confirmation on my reservation was for 80 euros for two people. I was charged 95 euros per room. This is unfair and booking.com sucks. I will tell all my friends to NEVER use booking.com. You are a bad business and unfair to customers.
Very nice rooms. View from the restorant is exelant, but food is not very fresh. Bread was old and cheese.
I like the location, ambiance and unique citadel atmosphere. The views are awesome. The beds are not so good. The restaurant is much too expensive and not good value.
The Pousada is in the middle of an hsitoric village with suberb views and even though is an old building the services and facilities were quite good.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The bedroom was comfortable. The location is absolutely charming. The bathroom was adequate but 'tired' - chipped tiles, broken fixtures. Not what you would expect in this standard of hotel in this price range. Apart from breakfast, the food was over-priced and lacked any distinction - very disappointing.
Although experiencing soaring temperatures of >35C, the arconditioning in the rooms did not work. Unfortunately hotel staff was not cooperative to seek for alternatives nor willing to offer any (financial) compensation/discount for the inconvenience. Very limited parking. Conclusion: very poor value for money and not even close to a four star hotel. Not worth to call it a 'pousada' .
Panorama Complicated access
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the beds were super comfortable.
Very pleasant experience. No in room facility for making hot drinks.
Stylish, clean and comfortable, an unexpected find in this area of the country.
Beautiful little hotel. Everything in apple pie order. Overlooking an industrial building. Restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday
Wonderful stay, definitely recommendable. Superb facilities, brand new, very confortable rooms, decorated with good taste. Extraordinary friendly service - the owner herself gave us excellent tips to explore the region.
The hotel is located in a small village and has undergone major refurbishment two years ago and it did look fresh and modern. There are 12 rooms in total and most if not all have a balcony with a parasol, a table and chairs. An examples of old kitchen items like scales, dough mixing machines or till machine were used to decorate the breakfast room/bar. Spelling mistakes in English translation of the food menu and other hotel literature which could easily be improved.
Comfortable and quiet room; warm and friendly staff from front desk through dining and check out; services were of a high standard. Easy to deaal with and very informative. Quality of the fittings etc was wonderful.
The hotel in general, the geographic location, the quality of the food products. For a "green" hotel it could have a separate smoking room, water economizer adaptors in the toilets, and stimulate plastic/paper/glass separation in the rooms (for the mini-bar bottles, for example). For the days when the hotel has more costumers there should be two people attending at breakfast, as it is difficult for only one person to do all the replacements and refills and attend the special orders in a timely fashion.
Very good service and friendly staff. Kitchen is excellent For people with less driving experience it could be a little tricky to get there.
Friendly hotelier, room was clean and comfortable, and hotel is situated in an amazing location i.e. Marvao
Incredible location and Fernando (the owner) was very helpful and friendly. For a photographer, this is it! No
The wonderful views and the price 1 The food (breakfast and supper) was poor. 2 There was a "toilet" smell in the corridor, which the owner tried to mask with a scented candle. 3 There was a plastic sheet covering the mattress, which I found uncomfortable.
The position of this hotel is magnificent with marvellous views across the countryside to the Spanish border. The room was very clean although it was quite small, but as the building is a few hundred years old that is what you would expect. The breakfast is excellent and I can recommend the evening meals in the restaurant, local dishes in vast quantities. The hotel taxi is very good if you arrive as we did on the train from Lisbon. Marvao is a beautiful hilltop town and we loved our stay.
Relaxing environment, nice breakfast, peaceful view (studio apartment) Administrative procedures (check in/out)
The hospitality and welcome received for us and for our little dog was wonderful. The position in the hills of the Valle de Radao was delightful, surrounded by rolling hills and unspoilt countryside. A great place for walking and exploring, with local cuisine available in the nearby village to a good standard. We would love to visit again. Not easy to find, perseverence required but well worth the effort!!
Off the beaten track and very rural with lovely view across countryside. Welcoming glass of wine on arrival and Jorge and Irene were friendly unobtrusive hosts. We stayed in the studio which had everything we needed for our one night stopover. Breakfast (taken in the main house) was excellent with fresh rolls, jams, ham and cheese. Knowing we had a long drive ahead, Jorge kindly let us make up rolls for our picnic lunch!
Certainly different! A restored ruin apparently miles from anywhere. Priced with hotels it can't compete with for facilities but which can't compare for the experience. Rustic outside; unexpected inside. Walkers and lovers could stay until exhausted! Very nice personalised breakfast prepared to order. Despite emailed directions, get there in daylight!
The Hospitality of the owners, the quiet of the surroundings, the gorgeous view of the serra de São Mamede.
