Entertainment - same show for several years now and no live entertainment after the nightly show
They had a variety of places to eat on site.
Staff was rude, the place smelled of waste and the ocean was filthy and unswimmable with all of the seaweed waste accumulation.
Mexican food was good. They gave out coconuts every other day.
Rooms were moldy and full of mosquitoes. Black mold was found in walls and curtains. Some staff expect you to tip then even though this is an all inclusive resort where taxes and tips are included in the price.
The food is amazing many choices to try different foods. The staff is very friendly, helpful and over all did a great job. We were very impressed with how everyone went out of their way to make our time there memorable.
There are not designated smoking areas and sometimes hard to avoid smoke. The shows at night are very fun and entertaining, but was very hot and smokey.
Steakhouse was excellent. The shuttle to Playa Del Carmen was only 65 pesos each way. Very convenient.
The beach is terrible. I know this isn't the resorts fault, but unfortunately for them, the beach is part of the experience.
The grounds were immaculate. The pool was very nice, and there were always chairs available during my stay, no matter what time of day it was. (I stayed between April 28 - May 5). My room was great as well, a nice walk-in shower, good AC, a mini-fridge stocked daily with water, soft drinks, and beer. The room was a ground level garden view room, which I highly recommend. The ground floor rooms have a nice large patio, compared to the upper floors which have a smaller balcony. The food was also impressive. I'm a vegetarian, so I sometimes worry about choices, but there was always plenty of options at the buffets. At the A La Carte restaurants there were fewer choices, but that's to be expected.
I found that sometimes the service was a bit lacking. This is often rare when visiting Mexico, as in the past I have found that the staff are generally quite eager to please. There were some good staff members of course - we had all lovely servers at the buffets, and Mario, who cleaned our room, was excellent. However, we encountered a number of average and below-average employees during our stay, at the front desk there were a couple unpleasant people, as well as some of the bars throughout the resort. It seemed the bar staff gave service depending on how well they were being tipped. The beach is also a bit of a let down, brown water with a large amount of seaweed washing ashore - but hey, it's nature, you can't really complain. It was nice that the traveling salesmen who patrol the beaches were not allowed to come ashore. They waited at the water line and called out to come a see their products, but they didn't bother you while you sat on your lounge chair in the sand. On the other hand, I found the resort photographers fairly pushy. When relaxing at the pool they come around and force people to take photographs wearing sombreros, holding iguanas - that sort of thing. Maybe some people enjoy this, but I prefer to sit in silence and read my books and they were incredibly pushy, they wouldn't take no for an answer!
Nice resort. Horrible staffing.
The rooms were clean.
Every single staff there seemed to lack management and quality service. When escalated, manager did not take ownership and try to resolve issues.
Pools were large, food was good. Staff was excellent.
Beach had lots of weeds in water. Not sure if it was just a nature thing, but the staff cleaned it every day.
Food was great and rooms were comfy
The facility is just too big and hard to navigate at times. Stayed in Mexico many times and there are better places to stay for the same price.
The staff was very friendly and cooperative. The facility was very clean. The staff always keeping everything clean and stocked. We enjoyed using the gym.
Our room was very nice and more than what we expected. The only negative was the bed seemed broken. It had a dip on one side. At the end of the day we were so tired, we didn't say anything. but I'm sure they would have done something. Maybe staff should keep an eye on the state of the furniture. Also the water in the pool was very very cold. We couldn't stay in it. But the beach made up for it.
They have an amazing pool and the beach front was great. I was also visiting the Ocean Maya which is right next door and is 100% nicer overall except for the beach swimming area. Definitely would stay at the Ocean Maya next time. The grounds at Bluebay also were kept up nicely. The food was average and the drinks were good. The complex we were in was in very poor condition and there was only a deep soaker tub in our room that you used to shower but you had to step 2 feet up and a foot over to get into it. A true killer if you had too much to drink. If you are only looking for a cheep place to stay, this would be it. I'm not a seasoned traveler but I would only give this resort a 2-3 star rating based on 5 being the highest. I would not go back to this resort.
Only a soaker tub that was absolutely crazy to get in and out of in order to shower. Forget about it if you had anything to drink because if you slipped getting in or out you'd crack you head open or throw your back out and I'm not an old person.
The food & facilities were better than expected for the price range of the hotel. however, this is described as a 5 star hotel and that it certainly is not. On the whole I was very satisfied and would return in the future.
The beach area was the worse I have ever visited with sand bags to try and keep it in place.
The service was really really good kind and caring staff, the hotel is very beautiful and calm, good food, quiet and beautiful beach especially in the part of the VIP. The hotel's facilities are good. Overall a quiet vacation luxurious dream
The hotel is very large, beautiful and fun to walk the trails, but sometimes it's a bit disturbing especially when you need a little something like an Internet connection for a moment, I would recommend the hotel to increase the frequency of the golf car transport and install WI-FI in the rooms for the convenience of guests. Beyond that I did not like the experience of salespeople I sell hotel vacation packages. The way this was done was not reliable. the food in the extra 5 specific resturants us less good then the buffet
Service & staff were very efficient cordial & welcoming. Especially Mr Rubio.
The beach & actually the fact that when we arrived at the hotel they had NO record of our having booked through your agency!
The Beach is very poor and the Beach upkeep is very poor.
Staff always smiling and very helpful. Excellent food. Fun events and staff around the pool area. I especially liked playing ping pong against the staff and lost in the final round to Omar - the Canadian from Toronto
The Mexican restaurant's service was poor but I don't think that was the waiter's fault. The restaurant was clearly understaffed at least the night we were there. Don't remember which night. The Daulfinus trip that we booked through the concierge was way over priced $140/person for which later we learned could have paid $69
We found the service to be extraordinary and the staff extremely helpful. The swimming pools were sparkling clean, there was always plenty of entertainment and things to do. The food was excellent at the buffet as well as the specialty restaurants. It was a fabulous holiday at the BlueBay Grand Esmeralda. We hated to leave.
There was nothing we did not like about the hotel. Everything was great.
The resort was very cost effective. However, we definitely felt like we got what we paid for...lots of quantity with minimal quality. This was particularly true in regards to food!
The resort is literally in the middle of nowhere. It was a 15-20 minute ride to Playa del Carmen. And there was very little to due at the resort other than sit on the beach or by the pool. Also very few folks on the hotel staff speak fluent English. This was problematic for us when we had to switch room due to a mold smell.
great food, people hotel, drinks etc.
mexicana restaurant was poor comparing to the other ones, enterteinments was boring for example carrabean night ' music was too loud during dinner i couldnt hear myself ...
