This was a really well-designed modern hotel -- spacious, comfortable, smart without being suffocating. Great outside bar-lounge under shelter. And it's an easy short walk (5 mins) to the Muensterplatz and its daily morning market (which is fantastic) and the heart of this lovely, lovely small city. The hotel parking was a problem. Despite having reserved a place, the gates were stuck, and there was a palava. In the end, we parked on the street in front of the hotel which is cheaper (8€ per day) and perfectly safe.
Very good value for money. Excellent breakfast and dinner.
Very quiet, yet near to the centre of Freiburg Just a small niggle- I never know why hotels of of this kind cannot supply bigger bath towels. we stayed at a b&b in France on the way back and they had lovely big towesl. Obviously it costs more to wash bigger towels but I do think it is stingy.
room, hotel staff
Very attentive staff
The hotel is very new (we stayed at august 2009). Restrooms very clean and new and the room was very modern-design. Breakfast a little expensive (12.5€/each) but quite good. Very near the city center (5 min. walking). To park in the surroundings at the street you have to pay from 9 to 19: 0.40€/15min with a maximum of 8 euros/day.
The location was very nice, and the decoration was interesting. The spaghetti dish was very bad. The spaghetti must have been cooked from days before.
Close to the city center, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere at the hotel and the bar/ breakfast room. Sure, you have to pay 12.50 euro per person for breakfast, but it was the best breakfast buffet we had seen in long time.
It was very close to the town centre Matresses were strange foam and a bit uncomfortable, overall a bit pricey
Mooi klein hotel, vlak bij het centrum, comfortabele kamers
One of the best hotels we stayed in. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The restaurant is expensive, but here are plenty of choices around.
We ahd horrible rooms on arrival since you booking.com have taken the old rooms that have not been renovated and you should not be allowed to dupe customers in this way. The hotel was nice enough to change the rooms
Quiet & comfortable
All of the staff made us feel extremely welcome, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The entrance lobby and restaurants are extremely elegant.
Wonderfully traditional 5-star (though in a 50 year old building), and you can feel the sense of pride in its history and role in the community (definitely a "tradition" for a certain age, here). Staff is professional and well-trained, and very friendly, not stuffy. My room was very large, and nicely appointed. The bar is fun -- very old school, with a wonderful, classic bartender, fireplace, cheesy 70's slow tunes (but a very talented pianist, as well). Perfect location...simple enough to reach by car, but right on the edge of the pedestrian city center, with shops right outside the door. No internet access at all in rooms. This was a big surprise. Free wi-fi only in the lobby area. Business center has one computer with printer. No fax or copier, though the front desk staff was happy to help. Mediocre bath/shower combo. I was in the "Residenz" annex, which means entering the front lobby, ascending one floor, walking down a long corridor, and ascending again. Not terribly convenient, and could be made much easier with independent external access. Finally, couldn't cool the room down (AC seems to have been shut off for the winter).
I loved everything...the service, room, facilities. I will always stay in the Columbi Hotel when in Freiburg. Just wished they had more locations. The pillows were too soft.
Everything was perfect: courteous, helpful staff with just the right attitude, gorgeous clean pool, delicious breakfast and dinner. Loved every minute. Never mind the cost...just do it!
Staff & location are the best
Great location in centre of town, just down street from the Munster. Car parking beneath (extra). Expensive i'net. Room a bit cramped for 3 adults in a triple.
centrale ligging, goede parkeer mogelijkheid internet 9 euro per dag
Helpful hotel staffs. Whenever I asked some questions to him, he always tried to answer and response. When I asked a recommendable restraunt for dinner, he suggested me 3 restraunts and one of them I chose was excellent!
Staff was really nice. My request had been taken into account (quiet room). Room confortable Breakfast was really expensive (15 euros); I am not sure but I think TV was not free also.
Every Thing........WOW This is the perfect hotel Nothing
The hotel is very pleasant and clean
Very good location. Although has no private parking, has a direct lift to the Hotel and also special price. Variable breakfast also for a vegan.
Hotel's location was convenient. It was within walking distance to all the shops. Parking was ample. And the breakfast buffet was excellent.
Great desk staff were very helpful. Didn't have tea and coffee facilities.
modern and clean
location is perfect, on the Catedral square; the building is charming; food is very good; personnel very kind; room was excellent for 2 adults and 2 children.
Staff were extremely helpful, especially in walking with me to my car and guiding me to the hotel, as it is very difficult to reach by car, especially when the Munsterplatz is full of market stalls and shoppers. The room (#53) was large and overlooked the Munsterplatz.
The location of the hotel, the helpful staff, and the very comfortable rooms. Difficulty getting to the hotel which is in the pedestrian zone. Even with GPS and hotel's instructions as to how to get to the hotel, it was not easy to find. In the older parts of cities with pedestrian zones, the streets can be very confusing. However, that would not prevent me from either recommending the hotel or in staying there again. Just a cautionary note.
The ole fashin styled furnitures, breakfast and the environment of the hotel . The reception of the hotel was the different place from rooms.
Great location by the old church plaza. There can be some city noise at night.
The old world ambience and location, and the friendly attitude of the staff were my favorite points. I was very disappointed with the poor functioning of the internet connection from my room.
The breakfast and the dinner were excellent. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, the room in the corner was clean. There is the garage, but it’s better to reserve it in advance Describe in booking.com how to reach the hotel by car, when there is the market in the square. Was very difficult.
hotel staff and the help for everything that we received
Staff were really friendly and location by the church was perfect. Room was also very comforable and loved the huge bed.
the beakfast was excelent not accessible by car and distant from the parking place
Hotel is right down town... great location! Very hard to find.
Room was very comfortable and staff very friendly. Also, had free coffee and tea in reception area
Very comfortable spot, centrally located in Freiburg, excellent breakfast, pleasant staff, enjoyed use of computer in lobby, music and movie availability, tea and coffee and treats throughout the day. nothing!!
This hotel is in a lovely part of town - very central. Rooms were extremely well kept and clean and a good size. Breakfast was enjoyable and quite substatial. We had no view from our room. We looked onto a tiny court yard and straight into someones office window.
It's proximity to attractions in the city and to the station
Excellent location (although surprising how noisy a pedestrian street can be at night), comfortable bed, good breakfast, very helpful staff.
friendly staff, wonderful food, very clean hotel, perfect location bed too hard, could use more pillows in room, extra blankets in the room, many other hotels have extras in the cabinets.
Very centrally located, reduced parking rates, DVDs available at reception free of charge Breakfast selection was not very big (but sufficient).
Housekeeping was fabulous. She was very warm and did a thorough job. I stayed at a five star hotel in Munich and the housekeeping in that luxury hotel could not hold a candle next to hotel am rathus'. Location was also perfet. Bed was very comfortable. I found the lack of curtains a bit of a put off. The shower stall was in the bedroom and the window faces other rooms (yes... I could see the occupants in the room). The room curtains were the sheer type that are completely see through if you turn on the lights in the room. So showering at night was quite the experience
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. They have DVD players in the rooms with a great selection of movies at no charge. A great idea as it was a Sunday, cold and raining when we were there. Everything is closed on Sundays. They also offer free internet, which every hotel should have. We give this hotel a 10 out of 10. The only down side is that it is fairly hard to find as it is in the pedestrian section of town but very handy to everything and totally worth while.
It was reasonable price and quite central just walking distance to munster area.comforatble nice hotel none
Very central, located just off the main Kaiser Joseph Strasse, literally 2 mins from the main thoroughfare. Walking distance 10 mins from Hauptbahnhof. Rooms were excellent, especially for the price, and staff were friendly to people who hit the town running and didn't get in until 5am. Nothing
All the staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. The breakfast room was well presented and there was a good choice of buffet. Bedroom was comfortable and the decor well considered. We like this being an independent hotel; it is free of international corporate identity. Whilst the location is both central and relatively quiet, the immediate street setting is not particularly attractive in a very attractive town. The room could be a bit stuffy, even though the window was openable. The room was a little small, if our stay was to be longer than a couple of days.
It was cosy and comfortable
Hotel staff very friendly, rooms are nice, breakfast is good
Breakfast staff were attentive and reception staff helpful The rooms are a little smaller than we would have liked. Some noise transmission in the night from neighbouring room
Convenient location, good room rate, v friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast.
Central place,Room was good.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent and room is large Room design is old-fashioned, there is no A/C and being on the 1st floor with open window all night long does not feel safe.
rooms so tiny also the bathroom
Good location, room was clean. There is an Internet charge in the guest house and for $117/night it should be included so that one doesn't have to go across the street to the hotel lobby.
Good location - We stayed in the guest house/building - Very nice, clean, quiet and comfortable room - Staff very accommodating - Good breakfast buffet - The new building is more modern with a very nice outside lounge - Underground parking available. Good value for the money.
Referring to the 3-star guest house rooms: Clean and very affordable. Breakfast separate (12 eu) but excellent buffet variety and quality. Very good location at the edge of the Altstadt. Excellent staff. WiFi connection in the guesthouse rooms is via T-Mobile hotspot at us 10.80 per hour in November 2007. critically the signal was weak, slow and prone to dropping - hence very frustrating. Possibly a more dependable signal in other rooms. 4-Star design hotel building may be more dependable due to a separate system.
Its location is strategic and very nice. The breakfast at the Design Hotel (nearby) is really rich. Clean and quiet too. Perhaps it was the period (high season) but I found the price unreasonably high for the quality of my room in the Gästehaus. My room (a single-bed one) was probably one of the worst available, a far cry from the rest of rooms as you can see them on the Internet. Also, I would have appreciated the Wi-Fi connection reaching the rooms as well.
If I had the option for the price difference (30 eur), I would have stayed in the Design Hotel. Please write at least 15 words Mattresses were soft
It is close to the city centre and the price was very fair There were no tea or coffee making facilities
Good Location. The room was signed as a non-smoking room, yet the smell implied that it had been used as a smoking room before. Thin walls (noisy).
That there was not free internet access in the guesthouse.
The rooms in the actual hotel are very nice. The staff were lovely This site says that Wireless internet is available in all the rooms and that is not True!. No Internet in the guesthouse!! I had to move rooms!
the staf at check-in desk and the breakfast
We had no hot water in our hotel for the final two days of our stay. I reported this and was assured it would be fixed. It wasn'T. Nobody informed us what the situation was. Thankfully there was anpther bathroom on the landing outside the room we were staying in.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was superb. Would definately stay here again.
Wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff N/A
An interesting, traditional hotel in a prime location in the market square immediately next to the Munster in Freiburg The striking of the hours and quarter-hours by the Munster bells does not allow deep sleep
Pleasant room, good breakfast.
Loved the central location, but a bedroom overlooking the market square can be a little noisy if you have your window open. The early erection of market stalls and the chiming of the Munster clock can be a problem. However, the hotel's facilities and food overcome niggles like noise.
Friendliness of the staff.
Our clean, basically furnished rooms looked directly out over the north face of the beautiful pink-stoned medieval Munster and down on a colorful farmers market, with food and flower stalls -- a great treat in the mornings. Despite vendors setting up quite early (before 6 a.m. on a Saturday), we didn't hear a peep. The hotel is situated over a popular restaurant, and we entered through the restaurant's front door, though later learned of a side entrance just for hotel guests. The breakfast was very nice, and we enjoyed forelle blau and other local dishes one night in the Hotel Rappen's restaurant. The Munsterplatz is located in the center of the pedestrian zone, but we were able to enter it directly behind the church to drop off bags. Parking is in a public lot 3 or so blocks away, but there is a discount offered to guests. The shower was tiny, and my husband bang himself on the swing-out doors several times. There was no way to vent the small bathroom after a shower except opening the window, where pigeons were often roosting.
Central location, well informed staff. The directions given on the website to reach the hotel, was not very clear. We had a bit of a problem to reach the hotel.
The location of the hotel was ideal, and the staff were helpful and well organised.
Location, convenience and service. Lack of a refrigerator in he room.
Location is fantastic. Short walk to the public car-park and the downtown pedestrian area with shopping and restaurants. Very clean room. The exterior and the lobby looks charming but that doesn't translate into the style of the rooms which just looks dated. Staff could have been more friendly and welcoming but they were by no means offensive.
The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were beautiful.Excellent location.
the staff were very accommodating and pleasant the restaurant was excellent and busy with many local people dining ,the position of the hotel is great for exploring the city ,the car park is a safe public one near by and you have to walk approx 300 meters to the hotel
Ideal location. The hotel also provides you with a travel pass for use on the tram and bus system. Very convenient.
Beautiful building, beautiful location, very nice and helpful staff...the hotel is family owned and operated and it shows, lots of character and charm. It was a 2 minute walk to the entrance to beautiful forest walking trails beergarten and all. All guests get a free public transportation card (bus-metro-tram) which is really nice and pretty rare. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly reccomend it to everyone.
the clealiness, the serenity
All the old part of the city was on your doorstep. The travel was free so we ust left the car in the car park and enjoyed the scenery.
Excellent location to centre of town and parking No air conditioning required windows to be open on noisy street
nice atmosphere and good hospitality
Staff was very helpful with directions, parking procedure, and overall checking in/out. The parking facility was very convenient. The included breakfast was very nice. The location at the edge of the walking area in Freiburg was perfect.
The staff were polite, patient and warm and very helpful giving information about facilities in the city. The breakfast buffet was delicious.
good central location. staff very helpful.room clean and of good size. breakfast choice limited
The free Internet in my room was the deciding factor for me. But it turned out that everything is good about the hotel except for the bad view.
Excellent location with good parking. Staff very helpful
This place is very good. The room was very spacious and clean. The best shower I had (water pressure). The breakfast was ok.
Central locatation, pleasant staff, good breakfast, free internet. The lighting in the room could have been brighter and better placed.
Very good hotel, in the city centre. Quiet very comfortable spacious room and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. The recepton staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nicer than three stars!! A completely enjoyable stay!
clean room, exellent staff, good breakfast
good downtown location super breakfast buffet gated parking
Good looking Workmen started screwing, gitting, hammering at 8:30 AM without any previous hotel notification. Bye bye relax!
Helpful friendly staff and cleanliness of room. Good shower Nothing
Wlan is accessable from lobby. Front desk told me wrong password so I spend 2h to fix this issue. Please remember to use all "small letters" for password!
Excellent service, relaxed, they took care of everything. Easy parking, location near center & baanhof. Nice rooms. Good feeling, very personal. Sporadic net connection in room, but strong at bar.
Close to the city center.
the breakfast, even if it costs 10 euros was abundant. the photo shown in the booking website is not the room they give you. we were disappointed with the room and asked the front office about this. she asked for a copy of our confirmation and she said the bath tub was not included in the room we reserved. please correct your website photos...it is misleading.
The hotel has a very nice location, right next to the city centre and a short walk to Siegesdenkmal bus station. The Schlossberg mountain is also 2 minutes away. The staff were professional and spoke good English. The restaurant was good and affordable. I was given a room at the top floor and it can get quite hot. My visit was in the middle of summer. The hotel like many in its class in Germany do not have air conditioning. This made some nights uncomfortable
location is at the centre of the city yet the price is very reasonable the bathroom is rather too small
I stayed in a single bed room. The room is clean and comfortable. Free unlimited Internet access is available in the room and the desk is large enough that you can comfortably do some works.
Kind personnel and very good food ! Poor bed quality
A very good breakfast, clean rooms. It was good! It was a very hot week and the windows did not all open for better ventilation.Disappointed that someone was not available when we arrived to direct us to what there was to do in Freiburg. Even brochures available would be better.
The hotel is very centrally located and has a municipal carpark only yards away. This is helpful in a caity where most hotels donot have car parks. The room was rather basic but still attractive. Breakfast was basic.
I liked the location.Being the hotel in the Altstadt, you are inmediately downtown and can walk around the Altstadt. The bed and the smell in the corridor and elevator.
The staff was very helpful. Our unit was large and lovely. Wonderful breakfasts were served to us with hot and cold choices. There was also fresh fruit and water in the room. It was somewhat noisy at night because our room was on the front of the hotel. So if you need quiet, a room at the back may be better.
The location and staff were helpful. It looks tired and is overpriced for what you actually get. I was expecting more in terms of facilities and luxary.
Location in centre of Freiburg No cleaning service in room, Very very old furniture, terrible condition of Bathroom, Breakfast was served in very small portions and all extra should be asked for. Every morning workers started very loud construction work at 100 mtrs from hotel (be warned for the next couple of weeks!!!)
Friendly very central hotel in the best part of the city.
The location in Freiburg is super! It was barely more than the equivalent of staying in someone's spare room. Not particularly welcoming or comfortable.
The location is lovely, we had a balcony which was nice to sit out on and the staff were very nice and a lovely breakfast buffet. The only thing was the floor in our room was very squeaky which got to be very annoying!
Some of the staff were very pleasant and helpful, not all however. The location was very central. Small uninviting room. Carpet badly stained. Heating did not work first night so room was very cold. They did try to fix this the second night. Altogether a disappointing experience especially considering price.
Good location but that was about it Internet services are poor at best
Staff was very nice. The location is great. Had a hard time getting internet connections to work.
Amazing hotel in a lovely city with an excellent location and breakfast! Everything was wonderful!
