Contras: I forgot some things at my room at check-out. I came back 2 hours later and asked for them. They told me to wait while they got them. After 1.5 hours of waiting I just couldn´t get my things back and lost 1.5 hours of my day waiting. I kept asking what happened and they always said 2 more minutes. So I ended up spending 1.5 hours of my weekend in the lobby arguing with the employees for them to tell me we can´t give you your things back

Prós: The hotel itself is truly beautiful and amazing, especially the pool. The staff was mostly nice. The breakfast, drinks, and menu offerings were all tasty, too. The tours through the hotel were great as well. Everything was reasonably priced as well considering how nice the place is. Location was a bit further than other places, but not bad.
Contras: We went for our 10 year anniversary - I wanted to make sure everything was just right. I called twice to confirm the request that our room had a king bed instead of 2 queens. Unfortunately, when we got there, the hotel had already run out of king rooms (tropical). When I first heard of this, I put a sizable bill on the counter to nicely ask about getting it right and all they told me was that we would be moved the next night (Sunday) after other guests left. I was not happy. I later found out from another employee that they had plenty of suites available, but that room was never offered to us. To make matters worse that night, the entire hotel lost water and we were not able to shower after a long day in planes and San Jose. The hotel was solely responsible for us having the only bad night of our trip. The rooms were basic and clean, but having to pack our stuff and move made us VERY unhappy. Oh, and only a couple of the tropical rooms have any ocean view at all - partial at best for those. Don't expect anything special unless you get a suite (which appeared truly wonderful)!

Prós: We spent a wonderful four nights at Plaza Yara hotel. Manuel Antonio was our last destination on two weeks honeymoon and we couldn't be much happier! Hotel is surrounded by tropical forest. We had an amazing view from our hotel room as well as communal terrace and swimming pool. The room was super clean, spacious and quiet. It was great to have a mini kitchen area equipped with fridge and microwave (we enjoyed making complimentary popcorn!). The feeling was more like studio flat than standard hotel room. Staff were super friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were greeted with chocolate covered strawberries once we entered the room. Very nice touch. We also enjoyed hanging out at the gallery that promotes local artists as well as playing with Yara (dog). We hope we can come back one day!
Contras: We loved everything!

Prós: Best customer service from a hotel, ever ! Sebastian and Jordan are friendly and super helpful. Nelson, the manager, went above and beyond for us. Plaza Yara really shines as a boutique hotel in every way. The rooms are huge, the showers amazing, the private balconies looking into the jungle supreme, the pools exceptional in cleanliness w more chance to see birds. The breakfast so nice and delish (chocolate pancakes ! YUM!) Art gallery by one prolific artist. We left w a painting and some ceramic hand painted geckos and frogs. Long live Yara. My highest compliments. I didn't shut up about its charm the rest of my trip. Was sad I did not have longer to spend there.

Breakfast delicious (chocolate pancakes!) as was coffee. Awesome gallery w art by one prolific artist. We bought quite a few things here. I did not shut up about the amazing service and charm of this place for the rest of my trip. Sets the bar high. I only got to spend 3 nights total here and was pining for more. Prós: The 3 bedroom appartement was beautifully designed and very confortable with 2 bathrooms, a terrace, 3 balconies, an equipped kitchen and nice living room. The service is great and beachtowels are easily provided. The pool is beautiful and the small beach wild. We enjoyed yoga classes on the yoga platform and unfortunately we missed the free cooking classes
Contras: The proposed activities through third parties on the website were a little disappointing, for example the catamaran for whale watching embarked almost 100 visitors.

Prós: This was our second visit to this resort, and as usual, the staff is always attentive and friendly. Nature, staff and pool area and room size will always be the highlights.
Contras: I was very disappointed this time with several things that were extra points the first time: 1) master bedroom had a TERRIBLE humidity smell 2) master bedroom bathroom didn´t have a trash can 3) master bedroom shower had moss and black stains - cleaning is definitey not properly done 4) no extras in the fridge as before, we were looking to have some drinks at the apartment as we didnt have time to stop by 5) breakfast was still good but it was a big disappointment not to be told in advance when making the reservation that their restaurant was out of service, it was an inconvenient with a baby to go out and look for a place to have dinner and lunch 6) in the main level, the area to the right, nearby the elevator, smelled terrible, not sure if it was the bathroom area, but I just couldn´t stand the smell when I had to go upstairs

Prós: Excellent service, top quality recommended for adults. We had dinner, breakfast, lunch, and even the drinks at the pool are excellent, the service is just perfect, and place out of the world. There is a design at every corner of the hotel and peace, for sure the owner have to be an architect or designer.
Contras: We had an emergency at the pool, it was literally sucking my feet and nobody at the hotel could turn down the pool by almost 25 mins, it definetely hurt my feet, the Owner (man) was not kind at all, but his wife was genuinely interested on what happened. Have to be honest, I felt like I was not welcome in there after what happened, but maybe it is only my experience.

Prós: The staff was really great and helpful. I felt well informed at check-in about everything that the property offered and hours or those items. Sometimes when arriving at a hotel I feel like they don't tell me anything! The rooms are newly renovated and modern. Our bathroom was stunning! Everything in Manuel Antonio is built on a hillside so just keep that in mind for this location. It didn't bother us at all because they have golf carts that can take you anywhere you'd like but if you had a traveler with you that was disabled it might get challenging. Both of the pools were absolutely stunning. So quiet and peaceful it felt like we had the place to ourselves. You never have to fight for a spot. I really enjoyed laying in the swinging loungers everyday and reading enjoying happy hour drinks :) The Pool Lounge was definitely my favorite. The monkeys came to visit too. The Makanda has its own beach access which can be arranged by golf cart. Chairs and towels are included which was really great. The beach was beautiful! Not your typical white sand beach but the dark sand has its own charm. Breakfast was included in our stay which was nice to not have to worry about. I wish they had a few more vegan/gluten free options but it was nice to have one at all!
Contras: The room was a little musty which I completely understand is hard to eliminate completely with the high humidity in costa rica but it made my allergies freak out at night. The pricing at the restaurant and pool lounge seemed a little crazy. The hotel itself is a bit higher priced. Seems crazy to then hit guests with additional high cost food. I'm talking normal stuff too. Guacamole was something like $18.00.

Prós: Everything was amazing - it never felt too busy, great choice of activities and they don’t change a premium for booking on your behalf, great beach, service from all staff was excellent, breakfast is perfect and we had all the best animal sightings right on the property.

Prós: Omg, this resort was mind blowing!! Perfect way to end our vacation in Costa Rica. The weather was AMAZING in Jan!! Our room had a huge sectional couch, a full kitchen, king size bed with GREAT views of the ocean. Had floor the ceiling windows so that you can look out into the balcony and the ocean and greenery. Had a tv and music system. Had a walk in closet with a huge bathroom!! Super clean room!! And the staff that brought us to our room, carried our big check in bag and carryon all on his shoulders!! Service was exceptional and the staff were very, very friendly!! But lets talk about the property itself. The infinity pool overlooked the forest which then led the way to the ocean. It was beautiful!! We hung out at the pool all the day!! The restaurant had a great food - we especially loved the Asian salad and the veg. spring rolls!!! Breakfast had amazing food as well. We had access to a private beach, where there was a staff available to lay out chairs and towels for you as needed and to call transportation back to the resort. My favorite part of staying at this resort was being able to see all the animals and especially the monkeys!!!! One of the mornings, we had a visit from 6 little wild monkeys who spent about 10 minutes on our balcony jumping on our hammock and being super playful. At first we were a little nervous about being so close, but it seemed like they were nervous of us as well. They just did their own thing and left. Even while in the pool, you will see monkeys jumping from tree to tree. It was amazinggg! Would 100% recommend this place!!!

Prós: We loved our room. It was amazing. Relaxing, luxurious, spacious, private. Really, it had to have been the best room I ever stayed in. The people were very nice and the food at the restaurant was great. It was our perfect get away. They have a web page they use to communicate while on the property and for room service which is really useful and helpful.
Contras: Room service should offer all of the options on the restaurant menu. Especially with regard to breakfast. For the price, it'd be nice if they did something special like give you a free bottle of cheap wine or something extra to make you feel special. The message was ok, not amazing. Also, I hated the coffee maker.
9,2 Excelente
Prós: The location, views and the incredible pool area. The integration of the hotel with nature and the rainforest was incredible.
Contras: The design felt a bit generic (albeit lovely), could be Thailand, could be LA. What I think would really make this amazing hotel absolutely perfect would be to integrate more local Costa Rican art and design in to the rooms and common spaces. I would also open up the wall between the breakfast area and the restaurant to maximise the fantastic ocean views. The insulation in the deluxe studio block needs to be significantly improved, you can literally hear everything in the room above!

Contras: Lunch and Dinner is much too expensive. But very good quality of food.

Prós: View and location
Contras: Most everything, old hotel, ants all over the place, including our bed. Insanely over priced coffee in the room ($33 for four capsules of coffee...) And on. Really, unless you have no other choice...
7,9 Bom
Prós: - very nice and spacious room with a truly fantastic view - staff very helpful for organizing trips - nice pool area
Contras: The room rates are actually like a 5* hotel, but the hotel fails to deliver on certain element in accordance with that pricing level, eg - breakfast only with cheap filter coffee (if u wanna have a proper coffee, that makes $5 extra) - overall the breakfast was good, but as it’s a la carte, the choice isn’t to broad - this was the first hotel in my life where the coffee machine in the room did cost money ($2,5 for a filter coffee, $5 for a capsule coffee) Overall, I think that the hotel management is trying to squeeze out some money from their guests where it’s actually a bit ridiculous

Prós: Chef Gabriel's food was absolutely SUPERB! ( Prob the best fried fish EVER and the best seafood pasta dish we ever had! ) Our waiter / host Alex was amazing for all three days we were there. The location was great as well. We got to see monkeys and sloths play from our balcony and had amazing views of the ocean! Breakfast was great every morning!
Contras: Chef Robert was very inconsistent. The first night he was our chef, he provided us with an amazing soup and a very good ( but over priced ) pasta special. The last night, we were hoping to end our trip with an amazing meal and instead, we got a raw fish ( supposed to be fried fish ) and a pasta dish that was mediocre.

Prós: Ilvo, who is the personable, warm owner, and his staff, were exceptional. They made us feel like we were at home. They encouraged us to explore and they served our every need. The staff was so kind and willing to please. Thanks Luis Carlo, Francisco and Grindr! Yet, they were sincere and approachable. All of them spoke excellent English. The food for breakfast was very tasty and filling. It was nice that they changed up the breakfasts every day which is unusual for a breakfast included place. The added bonus was the New Year’s eve dinner that was included in our stay. We would definitely recommend this place for anybody traveling to Costa Rica. I’ve been to Costa Rica over 20 times and can say that this is one of our best stays. It’s away from the beaten plant but close enough to enjoy the other shops and restaurants in the area with a short walk or ride. It was lovely to wake up and go to bed with the toucans right outside our veranda. Also, we enjoyed seeing the scarlet macaws come home around 5 PM. In addition, we saw white faced monkeys. We really liked the fact that the owners and staff encouraged guests not to feed them. They are very ecologically minded. That is why we come to Costa Rica.

Prós: I can’t say enough about the facility, the staff and the the food here at Issimo. The first night we were greeted by the owner and the staff have been simply amazing. The food is fresh and delicious. The grounds are very clean and we have only good things to say about this Boutique hotel. Location is great and close to anything in Manuel Antonio. I would recommend in a heartbeat.
Contras: Nothing we didn’t like. It is a little on the higher end price wise but it’s worth the stay. Only small thing would be the sunset. There is a rolling hill that blocks the total view but you can easily watch it from the beach or a one of the cafes down the street.

Prós: Gaia is located on a hill with incredible views from the bar/ restaurant. Highly recommend watching the sunset from the restaurant. It was amazing! Also, the private reserve is incredible. We did the free tour run by Juan and it was honestly better than any of the paid tours we did in the national parks. The story behind the reserve and the owner Boris, who very kindly greeted us, is also very inspiring. Couldn’t recommend it more. Last but not least, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. Sirit and Nancy at reception are the best. They made our stay so comfortable by sorting out all our requests/ questions and even had a little package of food ready for us when we left to drive to our next destination. The buggy staff were also so helpful taking us around the property and providing towels when we went to the beach. An added bonus is the free shuttle to Manuel Antonio.
Contras: There was some machinery like a generator running near the room at night so it was a bit noisy. Would be nice to have a kettle in the room as the room had tea bags but no hot water for the tea.

They pretty much took up the entire pool, were loud and spent all day there. I didn't have a moment to enjoy it until I went after 10pm. DO NOT GO TO FRED'S next door. We stepped in for a minute to check it out and the guy immediately hollered at us from across the place that we had to spend at least $10 or we had to leave. Um bye. The Wi-Fi also went down for an entire day, for the price you pay to stay here this was unacceptable.

Prós: Beautiful hotel. Close to activities & great ocean views
Contras: Beds are horrible. Old & no box springs. Seven nights was almost unbearable. Ant's in the room. Overpriced for the supposed best hotel in town.

Prós: The staff were friendly and professional. The gardens were lovely with iguanas, howling monkeys and capuchins. There were even tame agoutis. The cabins were secure and comfortable. The frequent local bus stopped near the hotel entrance which made getting to the Nature Reserve cheap and easy. The breakfast was good and the evening meals excellent.
Contras: I've given them a high score on most things. There is nothing that they can do about the location but the ease of bus access compensates for this.

Prós: -Friendly helpful staff who speak English & Spanish very well -Delicious breakfast included -Large rooms, with fan and AC, safe, hairdryer -short walk to restaurants -right next to the bus stop for the bus that takes you to/from the beach -very quiet during the evening and morning hours -bonus: lots of wildlife on the property! We saw monkeys, agoutis, a sloth, and iguanas!

Prós: Si Como No is the perfect hotel! The views from the rooms are spectacular, and we looked forward to sunrise and sunset on the balcony each day. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a very cozy bed. The breakfast is delicious - que rico! The staff at the hotel are incredibly welcoming and helpful. An issue arose with one of the tours that we had booked through a third party, but they were able to help us resolve it and get the shuttle to the hotel promptly. The hotel grounds and pools are quite nice, but it was difficult to find the time to spend enjoying them due to the convenient beach shuttle that was available until sundown. The hotel is located right on the main road within walking distance (no sidewalks) to various restaurants and shops. We had an ideal stay from start to finish, and I know I will be back in the future.

Prós: The spacious room great view, nice pool and wildlife. Very helpful staff.
Contras: Lay out a bit confusing especially in dark Parking awkward. The cheaper of the 2 restaurants wasn't good value for the mediocre food, and the chairs were very uncomfortable

Prós: The Hotel is really nice, the view is excellent. All people that work there are super friendly. The Interieur in the room is a little bit old fashion, but it was in a really good condition. We loved the breakfast, and the swimming pool :) extra plus!
Contras: It’s not about the hotel but in general about the place. There are a lot of Americans. Therefore, a lot of restaurants and other touristic places, are exactly made for their needs. It’s less about the feeling to be in Costa Rica, and more about the feeling to be somewhere at the West Coast.

Prós: We stayed in one of the one bedroom villa, it had views to the ocean which we enjoyed from the amazing terrace, a big spacious kitchen and bedroom and a perfectly equipped toilet with a big shower. The hotel has several pools and restaurants and a private beach. It is located on a hill so there are always cars available to drive you if you dont wanna walk the hill up. No meals are included, we could order easily delivery to our room or just to go to one of the restaurants. There is a coffee maker and basic equipment for the kitchen if you want to cook something. We had a person who helped us with everything during our stay, we communicated via whatsapp or sms and she booked restaurants/tours/laundry. Really smooth and nice.

Prós: Fantastic surrundings, the gartners are the sweetest (especially the eldest, who waves and say hi every time you see him - we are gonna miss him and his good spirit!!), and the garden is so beautiful! Good advice from the reception to the trip to the national park - and you can get a breakfast to go Lots of leguanas and butterflys, and the most luxury room I’ve ever stayed in :)
Contras: Pool and the area around could be cleaner The restaurant closed 2 hours before it should, so we didn’t get to eat the first evening The sandwich in the breakfast to go was very very dry and boring
10,0 Excelente
Prós: Amazingly clean. Staff are exceptional and obviously well trained. The room we were assigned was spacious, the bed was firm and the selection of pillows satisfied our preferences. The property, the gardens and on site trails are marvellous.
Contras: Likely everyone will comment on the road noise. It is evident but is easily overcome when you consider the amenities La Fortuna offers. Frankly I can’t imagine a place CR that will provide a completely soundproof experience.

Prós: The staff is really nice. There is a big parking area in the property. The rooms are comfortable. The bathrooms are rather modern compared to the average. Great temperature of the swimming pool. More modern hotel than average. They sell ticket for Manuel Antonio Park, which avoids the queue over there. Many towels available - fluffy and which smell good.
Contras: The worst in this property is its situation by the big road. There is no way you'll be quiet in your room, never. Trucks feel like IN your room. The breakfast is too simple for this kind of hotel, really few options, and quite a lame-looking kind of buffet. The pool doesn't seem clean. From one side underwater you can't see the other side although it's small...

Prós: The grounds of the resort are absolutely beautiful and we loved walking on the rainforest trails of the property. The pool is clean and just the right temperature. Short drive to get to Manuel Antonio. We had a rental car to get around, but the resort has a shuttle if needed. We would definitely recommend this resort for both couples and families with children.

Contras: Nice hotel in a great location. However, to unlock the door from the inside of the room, one must use a key (which can be a little tricky to use) which could be a fire or health hazard if someone has to exit the room immediately due to a fire or medical need and they either can't find the key or their spouse or roommate is out somewhere with the key. Other than that it's a nice place.

Prós: The breakfast, dinner etc. were beyond fantastic! Breakfast was a full meal with your own choice of the main dish . There were a lot of fruits and the kitchen staff was super friendly. Please try their Tres-leches - very yummy! The Wifi in the room was great. The room was also very clean. There was ample parking. It was also super close to the Manuel Antonio park - about 300 yards - so one could leave the car behind and walk. It is also possible to book tours from the hotel. We booked the boat tour to the mangrove/Damas island and it was a really good choice. They also have night tours from the hotel - a tad expensive- but one should do it if not raining.
Contras: The only thing was in my room there was no desk or chairs, so we had to bring in a couple from the patio. Also, there was no separate bolt on the door - you had to use the key every time and it was a bit inconvenient. The other thing was there was only coffee - no teabag in the room . We had to get that from the front desk. I understand all of CR are mainly coffee drinkers - but many international travelers do need their tea.

Prós: Within 5 mins walk of Manuel Antonio National Park. Room was comfortable, bed was nice, bathroom a little dated but clean. Breakfast was nice. Staff were quite friendly, except for when I had laundry done and asked if it could be brought to the room and a girl of reception just said “No”.
Contras: Drinks are listed without the 23% tax so watch out for that. Pool is a lot smaller than it looks on the photos, but it’s well maintained and we had it to ourselves so didn’t mind. Area is really tacky and touristy, didn’t have a good meal whilst we were there and tried several places. Better options are up the hill in Manuel Antonio proper. This was meant to be a bit of a treat hotel, but we left feeling quite nonplussed about it.

Contras: Breakfast was... well... basic to tell the least. Espresso coffee is at extra charge. We were they 3 days and third day I was really fed up with breakfast... Every time the same, some fruits (that is highlite), rise and beans, eggs and if you get lucky, some sosage. Lots of restaurants around, maybee better not to take breakfast and go somewhere else? Prós: Kayak Lodge is a little off the beaten path, which I like. It is a family-run business, the best kind. When I checked in at 5pm on Tuesday, Marlene, the proprietress, was there to show the room. I asked about where to get a quick bite around Damas before heading for SJO to pick up my sister-in-law, Linda, and she offered to accompany me to a soda a couple miles away on the Coastal Highway. She is such a doll! Her nephew Juan Carlos helps with breakfast, was in San Jose but on his way back out to the lodge. Marlene got him on the phone, and he offered to pick up Linda at the airport and only charge me for the gas. I nearly said yes, but I had promised Linda that I would meet her in the airport when her plane landed. As it turns out, I got lost, and Linda had to wait for an hour before I got there. I really should have taken Carlos up on his offer! Oh, well . . . If you have a working GPS, Kayak Lodge is not hard to find at all. It will be one your most enjoyable experiences in visiting Costa Rica. I love the Ticos!
Contras: Having to leave after only a single night's stay. What, I need to say something negative to bolster my credibility? OK, the humidity was too high! Deal with it. (Like, turn on the room A/C.)
5,4 OK
Prós: The room was pretty big and the breakfast was nice
Contras: We stayed many hours without internet neither TV because there was a problem with the connection. In Costa Rica the hotels have more or less all the same problems, we slept here two night and one night of them the hotel was completely empty there was no one. Said this you think that when hotels are empty they decrease the price (being low/winter season) and give you bargains but is not like this. Even if all the hotel in the area were free and there is plenty of hotels in more touristic areas like Manuel Antonio that were empty too they ask anyway for the full price so for what we got we felt we spent a lot of money and probably is better for look cheaper accommodations which at the end are not so different from hotels that cost 2 or 3 times more. Generally in Costa Rica (but especially in the case of this hotel) the prices of hotels are way over expensive, they ask you for European / USA prices but they didn't provide not even close the same level of service / comfort.

Prós: The Kayak Lodge was a very pleasant surprise. We had to cancel our reservation at a VERY expensive resort in Manuel Antonio for logistical reasons and booked the further away Kayak Lodge for a greatly reduced cost ($150/night vs. $400/night). The room, grounds, facilities, common areas, and pool were immaculate. My daughter said that it was the first place we had stayed during the trip (and we stayed at some very fine places) where she felt comfortable walking barefoot in the room. The owner (Marlene) and her staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. When we needed a late check out, we got it. The Manuel Antonio guide Marlene arranged for us (Millia (sp?)) was the best guide we had in Costa Rica! (Millia suggested & arranged a catamaran trip for the next day that was also a LOT of fun). Although the taxi to and from Quepos was about $10 one way (and a little more for Manuel Antonio) it was readily available and what we spent on taxis was more than made up for by what we saved on the room! Breakfast is included (indeed I think Kayak is deemed to be a B&B) and Marlene and her assistants prepared a delicious spread - complete with homemade guava jam! Also included gallo pinto, watermelon, pineapple, fried plantain, eggs, toast, etc. Mangrove tour was also fun. Highly recommend the Kayak Lodge.
Contras: It was a little far from the "action" but we had dinner in Quepos at the marina both nights and don't feel like we missed much by being a little farther out!

Prós: We enjoyed our first class stay from the moment we arrived on this lovely property. The front desk person greeted us warmly and we felt like family right away. They upgraded us without even asking and our room with the beach view was immaculate, adorable and had an amazing view. The breakfasts every morning were truly delicious, I am a vegetarian, a bit on the fussier side and the breakfast was a 10 and the portions fed me for both lunch and dinner. My husband and I would stay there next time as well.

Prós: The resort is beautiful. You have sloths and monkeys tight out your door. Pools are great. Food left no reason to have to go out. Staff was best we have encountered anywhere.
Contras: Keep the adult pools open a little later.

Prós: Everything was amazing!! The location, the views, the rooms, the pool, and the staff. I can truly say it was the best place we stayed at in all of Costa Rica. The room we stayed in had a partial view but was still amazing and very spacious. The tours were easy to organize with the staff we did the canopy and the national park with a guide. The views and food at the restaurant were amazing. The drinks even better. The pool was easily accessible and had a bar to enjoy food and drinks. We loved this place so much and the staff were the ones that made it truly a place we would love to go back to.
Contras: Nothing this place was amazing!!

Prós: Incredible views of the area especially at sunrise and sunset. Helpful and accommodating staff. Included shuttle is very helpful to get to beach and I especially appreciated how our shuttle driver brought us right to the park entrance (went a bit further on the road from the beach drop off).
Contras: Restaurant was a bit overpriced for dinner for food that was not very flavorful, however the included breakfast was excellent. Had many difficulties booking and paying through website, though was able to resolve by fax reservation.

Prós: The view is incredible, the rooms/beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. Falafel Bar across the street had great food too.
Contras: Some of the staff were rude and came off pretentious. This is especially annoying when you're on vacation and just want to let loose. TOO MANY KIDS.
