Clean, friendly, easy
The staff was top notch. Most went above and beyond to assist. The room was comfortable and accommodating. They made me feel welcome and made it easy to relax after a couple of very busy weeks of travel. Strong WIFI, nice business services area. I'd stay there again. Thank you! The bar was a disappointment and a stark contrast to the rest of the hotel. I waited about 5 minutes before I finally had to get someone's attention to take my order (even though there were 2 workers behind the bar the whole time). The layout is not conducive to starting conversations among others at the bar and neither was the staff. I felt like I was inconveniencing them. Also, restaurant staff came to the bar and talked about dining patrons right in front of the guests at the bar. Not professional.
cleanliness. average. hotel and its facilities were fine, but not as described on the website. a seat in the corner of the room does not constitute a 'seating area', and two single beds is not a family room. also, the walls appeared to made of paper, extremely noisy.
Very modern & cold.
Shuttle bus, clean rooms, good breakfast Rooms very small. Not the Metcourt Laurel we have stayed at before
The hotel is located in a secure complex. All facilities are within walking distance and the staff are the best!
I chose the hotel primarily for its proximity to the airport. The free shuttle to and from OR Tambo was very convenient. I was not interested in the casino, but found the restaurants within the complex provided a nice variety of meals. The staff were very friendly, everyone from the desk staff to those we passed in the halls. Our international flight did not leave until the evening, but the staff allowed us to store our bags and relax by the pool throughout the day. The breakfast included was delicious. I could not believe all the choices. I have no concerns
This was a very safe and close place to stay on a brief overnight airport visit. It was clean and nice, and easy to get out and walk around and have a meal even though we were really jetlagged. The IDEAL airport hotel. It obviously had more to offer than that, but that was what we needed. I did not like only having a curtain - rather than a door - between my bed and the toilet.
The room was very comfortable and clean, and I also liked that I could open the door for fresh air. In the evening I meandered over to the casino area and there were plenty of restaurants plus the casino itself was fun. In the morning I had the breakfast buffet which offered everything imaginable and was very delicious. My stay at Metcourt was a very positive experience and I would stay here again.
I had no problems with the hotel, it fit what I needed it for. A big plus is all the onsite amenities (casino, convention center etc..) not at all
The hotel is new and very functional with adequate food It would be better with a gym
I regard the "unenclosed" bathroom as entirely inappropriate for a hotel at this price level and would not have booked there if I had known in advance. I woudn't stay there again for that reason.
Accesibility from airport and to the Gautrain system. The mall within the complex including cinemas. Great stuff.
Very nice stay. Extremely good value. Near to airport with free shuttle service an pleasant welcome at airport arrivals. Very helpful and nice staff. Nothing - all good!
staff willing to assist with tour options/suggestions, friendly atmosphere
We stayed here twice and found it to be the perfect place for an overnight near JNB. Airport transfers were seamless and the family atmosphere at the guesthouse was warm and inviting. Highly recommended!
Great Staff Far from the city and overpriced en relation with the quality of the hotel
Arthur was very friendly and the place seemed totally secure.
Owners were very friendly, helpful and accomodating.
Family atmosphere and warm welcoming on both occassions. Great place owned by great, friendly and helpful people.
The hotel is beautiful, quiet and neat. Not known
Facilities were excellent.
No curtains on the glass door, consequently too light.
A unique guesthouse, home-like, not really a hotel, with lovely accomodations and good breakfast. Staff were nice and friendly, and in response to my booking form request, arranged a tour of Johannesburg and Soweto, and arranged late transport to JNB. No.
Clean and modern hotel, good lounge area, well-stock bar (honesty system), good security. No heating, so quite cold in winter.
The friendliest staff I've ever encountered, perfect rooms with plenty of comfort, marvelous shower and great food!
Quality of room and restaurant were nice, as well as location close to casino. Ordered wake-up call - never came, lucky to have woken up on my own. Ad said international outlets were in the room - they were not. Airport shuttle bus had a schedule, arrived on time, but then didn't depart for 15 minutes.
The security no.
The breakfast buffet was grand The rate and size of rooms. Was a little expensive for rooms of that size
Check your bill!!!
Very nice hotel and casino, luxury rooms and amazing breakfast I had a squeaking pipe in my room and it was hard to sleep bacuse of the noise
two bathrooms, bed was comfy Room service answering telephone was very rude to me, food was poor, lights in bathroom didnt work. very expensive for the time I had
Staff is excellent, very friendly
Liked the restauruants in the complex and level of security Just too far from Joburg centre
Clean rooms, nice bed, good restaurants nearby and great breakfast. Shuttle service back and forth to the airport was excellent. Older rooms, staff is okay and hotel a bit pricey
the homely feel, relaxed atmosphere and felt safe only problem right in the flight path a bit noisy
Extremely convenient to Johannesburg airport. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere - even had an 'honesty' bar. No hair dryer in the room / bathroom
Cleanliness of the room, comfortable bed with crispy clean linen, hot delicious breakfast & friendly staff. Water pressure in the shower dropped significantly in the morning may be through heavy usage but that made it unpleasant to freshen up on a cold spring morning.
Very pleasant stay, a quiet oasis just what you need as a stop off inbetween journeys. well laid out lovely gardens attracting wildlife, close to airport, helpfull staff.
Very convenient to airport, especially the friendly transfer service. Ideal place to stay between international flights - a lovely little oasis with beautiful gardens and self-catering facilities. Restful and relaxing, with fresh homemade pastries and cooked breakfasts or dinners if desired. The lounge and bar are well appointed and work on an honour system, all very peaceful and private, no hustle and bustle. The rooms/units were lovely, with french doors opening onto the garden, but when the curtains are open (which is necessary to open the doors) there is no privacy from other guests or staff walking past, especially at night when lights are on in the room. A great solution would be to replace the curtains with timber blinds or shutters, which could be angled to allow fresh air and privacy. Also, would be good to have laundry facilities, hairdryer and clock.
Very close to airport. Very inviting, nicely designed and home-like.Lovely breakfast. No clock or phone in room...only "wake-up knock". Staff failed to tell us about honor bar and need to request hairdryer to take to room
Airport pick up service was great and the staff were very friendly.
Close to airport, modern hotel with large rooms and nice bathroom. Good breakfast and dinner.
Excellent all round.
How the satff went out of their way to help me
They picked me up from the airport, and I did two tours with them (Thomas). I ordered eggs for breakfast which was included in the price of the stay.
Polite, helpful staff. Very nice setting. Very close to international airport with complimentary shuttle service. No fan or a/c in room.
Staff were friendly and very helpful, shuttle was prompt, nice, quiet, relaxing place.
Nothing to add Nothing to distract
Quiteness of area N/A
The room There was no record of me having booked via booking.com. I was fortunate that they had rooms available.
Location was ideal and staff very helpful and friendly
Convenience of transport to and from the airport
Staff very friendly and helpful None
Considering how close the lodge is to Johannesburg International Airport it was very quiet overnight. Nice spacious grounds. A very informal atmosphere. Interesting breakfast, not quite what I would call an "English breakfast", but tasty anyway. A bit odd having the shower in the main room, this could be a little awkward when privacy is required.
Prompt pick up from airport. Had to wake staff up for transfer back to airport in the morning.
Very friendly and helpful Very near the runway so noisy.
Friendly staff, prompt in delivering us to airport next day for plane to Durban
Large room. Tv. The pick-up service from the airport. No.
greatv for a one noight transfer, but bring your earplugs
kind people and convenient
The Shuttle service
Transfer to airport was a nice service of the hotel. We weren't content with the cleanless of the rooms/beds.
Friendly and convenient location. -
proximity with the Airport, easy to find, great rooms and friendly hotel staff. The food on evening.
This hotel does not justify the 3000 rands that we paid for a one night stay. It was the little things that let the room down - stains on the duvet cover and towel, no bath robes, hot and cold taps the wrong way around in the shower. However it was the rest of the hotel that was the real let down. Corridors full of detritus, and worst was the lack of restaurant. The staff directed us to the adjoining casino which was full of family restaurants - offering plenty of selection but nothing of quality. Breakfast in the hotel was diabolical with piles of limp egg and bacon that seemed to have been cooked hours before. I don't mind a hotel of dubious quality but not if I'm paying 3000 rands a night.
convenient Transit hotel close to airport, with reliable shuttle, reasonable rooms, nice breakfast and easy access to range of restaraunts. Price was hiked due to World Cup
Plenty of food choices and entertainment Getaroom.com screwed up the booking and there was no record of it with the Hotel. Mondior accommodated me though and were very helpful
access to the airport/ friendly staff/ good breakfast
The breakfast buffet Staff were rude and service poor
Owner picked me up at the airport, and arranged taxi for way back at 4 am. Good combination of price and quality.
A very calm, and luxurious oasis which I thoroughly enjoyed during my stopover before departing from SA.
Lovely room, comfortable bed, beautiful surroundings and friendly staff.
Extremely clean and nice accommodation, excellent food, great location and even better hosts. Room dining facility was absent.
Nice place, welcoming staff. Both bar and braai (barbecue) are lovely...
The hospitality of the staff including the owner of the guest house and the homely environment. No
I was made most welome and grateful for being met at the airport and driven back when I departed. My only disappointment was the distance to the airport. When originally booked the Booking.com website indicfated 0.9 kms distance.. not the 9 kms actual distance.
Very clean, owners are very friendly, possibility of having dinner with them for a small fee. The lack of free Internet.
met at airport and returned to airport for onward flight the next day
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely room with privacy. Great to have efficient and inexpensive pick-up and delivery from airport. Air-conditioning would have been a bonus.
I love the owners. They made everything plesantly confortable for my short stay. n/a
Airport transfer, room service Tiles in the bedroom
very clean, close to the airport, good breakfast it is handy for the airport, but difficult to access the city
clean, up to date in facilities, very friendly
Very friendly and accommodating staff. \extremely clean room. \good services Very noisy with planes going overhead into the evening
The helpfulness of the hotel staff - they make you feel most welcome & facilitate your stay & travel plan in every way they can. None!
Staff, breakfast, cleanliness Room a bit chilly in winter, could use a heater
Friendly reception. Secure area. Good location near airport. Light from outside in room during night -- black-out curtains should be used. Covered parking insufficient. Early warning system, dog, too active.
Marnie and her family made us feel right at home and saw to our every need. What a wonderful way to get to know Johannesburg. I have nothing to complain about. Everything was wonderful
Excellent service - picked up and dropped off at the airport for a nominal fee. The room was beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom and very comfortable bed. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. No
Friendly owners, good room, good breakfast
After experience of other hotels/lodges (price, comfort, breakfast, service owners) this was generally poor.
It was comfortable, quiet, and friendly. I enjoyed breakfast every mooring, cooked to order. The electronics in the room, (TV, radio, etc) could use an upgrade. There was no internet access.
The Welcome. Good service from the start.
The staff was extremely friendly, breakfast was good, room was nice & cozy. Pretty far from city center (although rather close to airport), wasn't too cheap.
Very close to the airport. Not close to anything else. Very clean and comfortable and staff very nice.
th environment was very cogy nothing
The Willow Tree Guest House is a delightful little gem just a short trip from Tambo airport. Hosts Shelley and Ian are very gracious and the theme-centered houses look out on a delightful garden with a swimming pool. A full English breakfast cooked to order comes with the package. This is an especially good location for international travelers who are passing through Jo-berg and going on to another African airport the next day (or the reverse). For airport pickup at Tambo, call Shelley when you clear customs and she or Ian will pop right over to pick you up and whisk you off to their welcoming guest house. They couldn’t be kinder or more accommodating.
A small pool, free taxi service to and from the airport. Jimmy, the driver, was lovely and on time. He even drove us to a restaurant for dinner once. Worst guest house I’ve ever stayed in in South Africa. There is no gate attendant and no doorbell, so several times we stood outside the gate for ten minutes or more waiting for someone to notice us so we could be let into the compound. The Wi-Fi was so slow, you should consider it non-existent. It was more expensive than the chain hotels like Sun1, and we had to pay on check-in (probably because they know how many people won't want to pay after staying there!). Other minor annoyances that added up to an all-around negative experience: There was a kettle and two cups in the room but exactly ONE teabag and no coffee. There was also only one towel in the room when we checked in and we had to get another. The TV made strange noises until we realized what it was, and unplugged it. NO sound insulation — you can hear everything going on around you, which woke us up too early both mornings. The bed was insanely warm and we only realized halfway through a sleepless night that the mattress warmer had been turned up all the way to maximum power and no one had warned us when we arrived.
Forming part of the Emperor's Palace Casino and Entertainment franchise, the Metcourt Laurel provided quick and easy access to a wide variety of activities and facilities. The hotel's central location within Johannesburg and its close proximity to the airport provided an excellent platform for exploring and relaxing during our stay. Despite the spatious size of the room, the overall room layout was poor, with a substantial amount of wasted space and dead corners. The choice of furniture and decor within the room was also surprising and although functional, disappointing, given the appearance of the upmarket foyer and reception area - the equivilant of a good first impression that lets you down when you look closer.
Very close to the airport; a lot of restaurants, shops and casino. I had an inside room with no exterior windows.
The hotel is very close to the airport and also offers a free shuttle service. The air condition was too noisy
We used the Spa for an extra $20 ...amazing value for money!
Proximity to mainy things.
Safety inside the grounds Luxurious accommodtions breakfast
There is an excellent food court behind it. See especially the Ocean Basket, which is part of a chain but good. Breakfast buffet a feast. The fake emperor/classical motifs; just keep your eyes closed, except for the excellent photo history of apartheid somewhere in a hallway.
Its proximity to the Johannesburg Int airport and its free shuttle every 20 minutes was very convenient. It is a very impersonal place, style over substance. Attachment to a casino and mega slot-machine venue ether suits your way of life or you end up loathing the whole experience.
The location is conveniently close to the restaurants at the Emperors Palace Casino complex. The breakfast service was above par compared to the rest of the hotel's services. These comments are not complaints, merely an account of my experience. The throw on my bed was stained. The toilet ran all night long. The power in my room got cut in the middle of the night, resulting in none of my business tools (phone and laptop) getting charged. At 4pm I was awoken by a very loud noise coming from the hallway - I assume a cleaner with a floor polisher. This is when I discovered there was no power in my room and I struggled to get dressed to get help. The phone was not working while the power was off. The receptionist was friendly and a technician restored the power in my room 15 minutes later. I reported these issues to reception on check-out.
