This is a super cozy, welcoming and friendly hostel right in the heart of Lisbon. Close walk to Alfama, Barrio Alto and many other must locations. The living room and general spaces are so comfy and well-decorated (pictures of Mama's family all around) you feel like you're staying in someone's home. The hostel also organizes tours and activities to keep you busy and meeting people, if that's what you're looking for. What makes it truly special though are the daily dinners hosted by Mama herself. She really makes you feel like part of a big family. I'd come back here for sure!
The beds and pillows could use a bit of an upgrade, and having an extra towel would be nice :) Wifi on the fourth floor was patchy at times.
Location , homey
You truly feel like home! Mamma illuminates the establishment of her presence and her meals that she prepares herself with her team. You are considered a person in their own right, and not "like a customer". The beds have a curtain, which gives you some privacy. An outlet,a drawer and a lamp for each bed. The establishment is very warm, clean, very well located. Every day, a member of the team will introduce you to a part of the city, Sintra, surfing, trendy bars! I have traveled a lot, and this is the kind of place we want to meet all over the world ... Thank you Mamma! Thanks to the team!
The location was excellent right in the middle of town and a 5 minute walk from the metro. Rooms were lovely, great for beds to have curtains, shelves and own lights. Shared bathrooms were nice. The living room was very cozy and the drink deals were great! The walking tour was really good as well.
Showers weren't great, didn't get too hot and the head would stay still but generally no problem.
Had already paid for my stay through booking.com on arrival the staff weren't welcoming at all and told me I had to pay for my stay even though I had already paid. When I showed them the reservation on the booking.com app which said paid beside it they still did not accept it was paid for and asked me to show them my bank statement where it was paid for(I have stayed in about 50 hostels before and never once been asked to show a bank statement) after showing them my bank statement where I paid booking.com(which uses a dutch address) they still refused and said its not there address. Eventually another member of staff accepted it was paid for after 20 minutes of debating there was no apology or anything. I was told I could then get a welcome drink from the bar so I asked for a coke but they wanted to charge me for it so I said no thanks as usually a welcome drink means a free drink, they told me only shots of alcohol were included(this is great but not everyone drinks alcohol and they had no alcohol free option) additional to this had one staff member trying to imitate my accent which I found kind of racist to a point. On going to my room the shared bathroom facilities smelled of vomit and there was someone playing Eminem music on full volume from their room which could be heard in every room. Not sure how the hostel has such a high rating, the location is ok but so many far nicer hostels in around that area which I have stayed in before.
