location
there was literal brown water coming from both the sink and shower
Location! Nice room and comfortable bed.
The A/C unit was unbearably loud. No street noise just the A/C. Had to sleep with ear plugs. No way to turn it lower or off w/o unplugging. It’s my only complaint.
The hotel was fine. Bed was comfortable. Close to two subway stations. Lobby is beautiful and so is the rooftop bar although it is the most expensive bar I have ever been to.
We paid beforehand, and while checking in they said: "it looks like you're all paid for, so we just need a card for incidents." When we checked out they said, "It will just be $20 for a resident fee"... Hmm... wasn't that what the $160 nightly fee was for? Where has transparency gone? What in god's name is a resident fee? Sounds like something they just make up to get more money out of you which is most likely exactly what it is. I absolutely cannot stand when hotels do this and I have never understood the reason behind not being upfront about costs. We left pretty pissed about that. Also, there was no coffee in the room which is the first time I've ever been to a hotel without coffee in the room. Even the Days Inn has coffee in the room.
Staff was very helpful
They staff was outstanding helpful, when we needed any help ! We will definitely stay there again, if we have to be in the area
Frustrating
The location was great and the staff was very friendly.
The paint on the bathroom door was peeling. The AC was not working and was a huge wet puddle. Plus they charged us extra $30/night for a room with 2 beds even know I booked a 1-2 bed room on Kayak.
Disappointing
Location is ideal. That’s about it.
This is my second stay at the empire. I decided to come back because of the location and to give them a second chance, but I won’t be staying there again unless they train their employees to be hoapitable and clean up their rooms. One super annoying issue is they don’t have ice machines on each floor. You have to have housekeeping deliver it. The first time I stayed there, in March 2018, I called down for ice and after about 30 minutes without the delivery I called again. They never brought it. This stay, June 2018, I called for ice and after 45 minutes of waiting I called again. 30 minutes later I called again after no delivery and the front desk guy seemed frustrated and put me on hold. After about another 20 minutes, housekeeping knocked on my door. When I opened it, the delivery man asked me “Didn’t I already deliver ice to you?” First of all, no you didn’t! And second of all, this is your job and if I asked for two buckets of ice, I shouldn’t be getting attitude for it. The rooms are run down and need to be updated. Cleaned up here and there. There were multiple times where I’d call the front desk and the phone would just ring and ring. Sometimes no answer or sometimes someone would pick up after 10+ rings. This is a hotel! In NYC! Get some more staff! Train them on how to treat guests. Follow in the footsteps of the hospitality giants and get it right!
Quality NYC stay
Very friendly staff. Nice sized rooms for NYC. Good choice of amenities.
Dont go
Location good
Nothing worked, visiting for a week and pool and the pooldeck was not open one single time, the fitness center was on and off closed had to go outside, sometimes housekeeping just did clean the room.
Location, location, location
Friendly, helpful staff from the front door men onward... The Concierge , he is always a pleasure to deal with. House keeping are quick and helpful, should you require more of anything. Starbucks on the corner... Good to go!
Proximity to Lincoln Center
Dreary, small room Charge for wifi Bathroom so small that one had to close the door to reach the toilet paper and there was no surface on which to put a dopp kit
Great stay in January
Excellent location. Awesome rate. Was in town for a training workshop but decided to come a couple days early with my boyfriend and found a great rate for weekday in January. Close to subway.
Only problem I had was that it can be quite noisy. It is located between Broadway where it crosses an avenue, so even at night there is a lot of traffic. Our room faced Lincoln Center, which seems quiet at night, but it was also the side of the hotel which has service entrances so a lot of trash trucks and deliveries coming in on that side. I'm a light sleeper anyway so I always bring earplugs and that worked perfectly.
Great hotel, fantastic location, lovely staff.
The Empire Hotel was much, much nicer than I expected, considering that it is one of the more affordable options in Manhattan. The lobby was very stylish and featured a nice bar where people were meeting for drinks and snacks etc. The room was very small, but that is typical in big cities, and it was really nicely done, with a lovely bed, lots of towels and toiletries, etc. It felt very comfortable. The location is amazing: Lincoln Center is literally across the street, the subway is half a block away, and you can easily walk to dozens of attractions and the park. This will be my go to hotel from now on in NYC.
The movies were a bit expensive to rent ($19!) but the internet was strong and cheap, so it didn't matter. I could hear the folks in the next room, but they were having an argument (whoops) and otherwise I couldn't hear anyone. NYC is noisy, so there's always going to be some noise. I really don't even consider these complaints, to be honest.
