it was very difficult to get to and from the hotel to the city centre. The hotel is 15 minutes away via a bus, however, the bus only comes twice an hour! this makes planning very inconvenient.
The breakfast was very poor
Location was pretty close to the city...just 15 mins by bus 48 to the Centraal Station. Bus station just in front of the hotel. Price is a bit high, we paid 100 EUR for one night without breakfast...but I guess that's how most hotels are in Amsterdam. Anyways, you get very good breakfast in the city (we paid 25 EUR for 2 people).
The room that i stayed was quite large , also shower was wide enough for me; sine i am almost 2 mt high :) The lady on the phone -reservation desk was rude !They cancelled our booking. When i called them on 7.10 she argued that we had to be there before 7 pm. No other room were free : she claimed ! When i called Booking.com hotline, they resolved th issue; and suddenly we were able to stay ! I think they were expecting to sell the rooms at higher prices!
distance from city center and limited night services for public transport.
There is not minibar in the room. It's far away from the city center.
Location was pefect if you have a car, you won´t find better. Without car, it´s still ok.Only 10 min to the city by bus and the station is just outside the hotel. The service and the staff was excellent. We got useful info and bus timetable while check-in. Very clean room. Free parking in the weekends outside the hotel! but really cheap anyway in the weekdays The bed was not so comfortable, we expected somethong better. Bad pillows. Price could be lower but I think the price standard in amsterdam is high anyway
Breakfast was oke I like sleeping with open window, but there was a lot of noise from outside
24 hour reception (due to a traffic jam I arrived at 4.30am), english speaking and friendly staff, disabled room, although it did lack shower grab rails and a low shower tray and curtain would help stop the spread of water. Tea/Coffee making facilities or a Drinks Vending machine would improve the hotel. The room felt slighly cramped but I understand that is a standard room size.
The hotel was in a convenient location, and the staff were pleasant.Other than that there is nothing good to say about it. The rooms were not clean, with cigarette burns in the bedding. The mattress seemed about as old as the hotel, which is at least 50 years old, and the funiture was very tatty.
Warm welcome, informative and efficient staff. Third floor room in annexe was clean and fairly quiet. Two rooms, perfect for our two young children.
I booked a room in this hotel, but I get an appartment for the same price... Great...
Its location, very central, the rooms were spacious enough to accomadate two adults and two children comfortably. Be aware there are some very steep stairs going to the room :). It was a bit noisy, but it was in an entertainment area and this is to be expected.
We had a beautiful time in Amsterdam, and the Hotel Amstelzicht was perfect for us. A cosy hotel, with a confortable bed, very clean, in the heart of the city and with a beautiful view from our room. Thank you. We enjoyed the experience very much !
I loved the spaciousness of the rooms, the location, and the view from my room. It faced the canal and made me happy to look out and watch the scene. It was a bit noisy. I also felt the amenities weren't quite there. Shampoo and soap would have been nice. I had to ask for hair dryer (but received one). And the internet wasn't reliable.
The location of the hotel was excellent. We got bitten By creatures whilst in bed. Possibly bedbugs. The music from a nightclub was also very loud.
Awful and dirty room in the basement, with mouse and bloody bed cover. Terrible place with mouse in the room. It is unacceptable.
This is the place to stay for visitors to Amsterdam. Great location near everything. Great restaurants and bars near by. One of the better coffee shops and smart shops just a minute away. Nothing.
The only concern, was the checking in it seem too long and you did have 3 staff on. However th ques for checking in was getting longer as the staff seem to take telephone calls when attending to people checking in.
The staff Lack of information ,should make clear what the hotel offers .ie. breakfast not included no smoking signs ,never saw in rooms but rooms was clean and nice.
easy to access all areas of amsterdam ( very central location) No, everything was great, i enjoyed my stay and will book thier again when i return to Asterdam.
Location, price, excellent staff and wonderful building... This was the third time I have stayed at this hotel, and on both previous occasions I was allocated a much larger room than this time around... This time, the room we were given felt a little cramped, especially the bathroom. Also, the room contained only one mirror, inside one of the wardrobe doors, and there was only one bedside table. I will definately use the hotel again in the future for its excellent location, condition and helpful staff, but my fondness for the hotel has been slightly reduced because of the size of our room.
2nd stay, had a bathtub this time ++ Central location. Clean. Cheap. We couldn't have a smoking room, even though we indicated a preference for one. The rooms all seemed to have been renovated with hard flooring which made adjacent rooms a lot more noisy.
Location, freindliness of staff
Staff friendly and helpfull. Location good. An average-sized Hollander wouldn't have been able to use the toilet. The rooms was very small given the rate and the bed had to be nudged to open the door.
The staff. Location. Breakfast choice is very poor. Toilet and shower in same space.
friendly staff, wonderful place close to the city's center
Excellent canalside location on Singel within 8 minutes walk of Centraal Station. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Location was very good. Room was clean and the breakfast was average. The walls were very thin. You could hear your neighbor showering or flushing the toilet. You can also hear people outside your room walking around. It didn't feel secure.
The staff is really friendly and caring. Although there was a problem with the lift and didnt work, the hotel try really hard to fix it as fast as they can. Very helpful people and very convenient location. Also just locates next to the canal make the view pretty to look at.
Location near Central Station is very good. (Three blocks). Front door desk quite helpful. Breakfast was sufficient. Room was querky, floor unlevel but overall room is okay compared to many in EU.
nice quiet enviroment no
The hotel staff are very very friendly & helpful. It's the typical Ducth hospitability. Good work.
Very convinent near the station. Wi-Fi in some rooms is too weak.
position small room
Location Staff Rooms very small in comparison to what was shown on the website... Breakfast was good but queuing for toast took ages as only one toaster for all guests...
the staff competence and amability, the comfort. A great hotel but for distance from center breakfast could be better and distance from town (45 mn)
Almost everything. Good facilities, excellent accommodation. Noththing
We reserved airplane shutle bus. However, the shutle bus did not come and we pay more money to taxi to take our airplane
Free parking. Tram about 600 meters away went directly to Central station. the internet connection in my first room at the end of the hall was very poor. They moved to another room where then appeared to be stronger. However when I got into the room did tonight was also weak. I think signal was weak and cannot penetrate the cement. If I wanted internet I stood by the door.
The rooms were really clean, the staff was polite and co-operative , overall a nice stay in this hotel The TV in the room was not working ,there was no fridge in the room and the breakfast was really expensive
the accommodation was good enough but there was no facility at the hotel to get a drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic) during the day, only at breakfast time and dinner time. as above
Easy to find, parking place, accessible by public transport. Good breakfast. I have had a room on the top floor near something like aircon ventilation. It was noisy all night long and very annoying. Hotel is not new and it starts to be visible. I have managed to live with it.
helpful staff, close to airport that the 'double bed' was 2 single beds pushed together
Staff was professional and very helpful. Rooms were large and clean. Free Parking. Buying a transportation ticket at the reception made it easy for the transportation. Location is terrible. It is an 8 minute walk to the closest city transportation at a good pace and a 20 minute ride into town. If it is cold, it poses a problem. The night bus is inconsistant and the numbers changed without notice. We stood at the buis stop for 45 minutes in 28 degree F before we took a taxi (22 euro). (Not the hotels fault, but effects the overall stay).
When my taxi did not turn up to get me to the airport, they arranged another reasonably quickly. I needed to use an iron/ironing board and these were not available. Not the nicest of areas.
Parking availabilty Smoke free room however could smell smoke from hall way
Light room The same problems as in most hotels in Amsterdam: if you want an acceptable price, that comes with shared bathroom and very small rooms.
The original 4-person room was very spacious and clean. The triple we stayed in during our last night was disgusting, as was the shared bathroom. Furthermore, the 4-person room was not cleaned until 2 and a half hours after check-in time. And the staff was often not very helpful.
It's close to the centre and tram lines. The room was very nice and big. The bed was very comfortable. The steps are very steep. Our room was next to the toilet and shower so we always heard the other people going there.
Quiet but failry central location This hotel is actually an annexe of the Hotel Max round the corner. It is unstaffed and distinctly tatty - check in was at the other hotel but this is not indicated on the doors, just in the small print. No breakfast was available.
just the location outside not clean not enough space in room, dirty and broken bath noisy ...
accessible near tram station carpets are dirty; no staff available in hotel
The reception is in another hotel "Max" (200 m away) that was mentioned in the hotel description or booking confirmation.
...that they started the heating in the second day, breakfast is fine On the first day no heating, the beds were uncomfortable, small space in the rooms, no soap,
The hotel was clean I was happily surprized.it was out of the busy nasty section but not too far from fun! Steep Stairs-- but then they are all like that, just know before hand and don't bring all your bags if possible!!
Small quiet Hotel on the outskirts of city centre friendly staff and great views of the river amstel
very nice people, very new facilities, best location small room&bathroom with not very good lightning/air
staff very helpful
Great location The family room (for 5 persons) was very small.
Well localized, nice staff, comfortable beds, cozy. Could offer more breakfast variety.
nothing booking arrangement was terrible, there were lots of unexpected suprise when I actually got there. Room was supposed to be for 7 people dome but afterall ended up 9 people squeezed in, with still same amount of money that I paid for. (and of course no mention about 7 ppl dom before I got there) and so on.....
the location was great and it was good for that amount of money i didn't like the fact that you can hear everything next room it was a bit loud but everything else was great.also breakfast was ending way too early. don't get a room with breakfast b/c you cannot wake up;)
Beautiful and comfortable hotel , Great helpful staff everything was great
disturbance during stay in room
Hotel staff was more then nice and helpful For a "Junior suit" (as booked and paid), the room was too small
The excellent staff and our gorgeous apartment to which we were upgraded Would not include breakfast again; though lovely and convenient it was very pricey given the area. Otherwise a perfect stay!
While walking in the streets on a cold, windy, snowy, rainy day, the thought of going back to the hotel was pure happyness, as the hotel is so warm and cozy, It starts at the reception, continues in the corridors. Even the pool is warmer than all the pools in other hotels, I used it in the morning before breakfast and before going to bed at night. The extensive opening hours of the pool are a big advantage. The breakfast is the best I travel a lot, stay in nice hotels, none of them compares to this one...best juices, best fresh fruit, best bacon and eggs, best waffles. I loved the hotel tour, especially the wedding chapel and the other room with all the wood sculptures. I also liked the library with the fireplace. Everybody was extremely f I would have preferred a smaller and softer pillow
Hotel helps for every question asked and answers all in the perfect way. No dislikes.
Great location, helpfull staff, nice interior, cleanliness, convinient bed, complimentary water and sweets every everning, channel and garden view, etc. - everything! To escape any delay connected with checking out the next morning, I was proposed to settle the formalities in the last everning.
Cleanliness, wonderful architecture and interior design, polite and proficient and friendly staff Nothing. It was perfect
I hated to leave. Staff and facilities were outstanding. Room was beautiful and luxurious.
The service was great, if I can afford to, Ill stay there again.
Absolutely first class service. Could not do enough for you. Extremely comfortable bed! -
Omg they were doing a contruction at the front so much noises
Good location & shuttle convenience. Good food in the restaurants in hotel premises. Housekeeping staff waked us in the morning for the cleaning the room which was highly unexpected. Over all it's ok.
Lots of restaurants with fast food- quick and easy when you are on the move. The noise levels in the hotel are not good as the cleaners are working 24/7 and this is not good!!
shuttle service to airport
Location is ok. About 10 min from airport, and short walk to bus station to go into town. Thin walls and very noisy all night. No air conditioning, was sweating all night. No mini fridge.
Clean comfortable rooms; adequate facilities in the rooms; great for a quick stop-over; convenient airport transfer nothing
I like simple modern decor, however this was a bit to basic, Th staff was courteous and check-in was fast. The hotel was only 10 minutes away by free shuttle bus from the airport, and we did not need to wait longer then 5-10 minutes each way for the shuttle. We paid over $200 for a triple room, however, what we received was a "converted" double room. They removed the narrow desk at the window and the bedside table, and instead squeezed in an extra bed. The double room was already very small and basic, but with this change it was really uncomfortable. The two single beds that were pushed together to make a "double" (with an uncomfortable crack in between) was only separated by about a 15 cm gap from the single bed, not allowing to fit two legs side by side, therefore you had to shuffle in sideways to get to the bed. The only electric outlets were above this third bed, so since there were no desks or tables, the overnight charging of the ipads and phones could only happen on the bed, making it very uncomfortable to sleep next to it. In addition, the bathroom light could only be turned on with the entrance light, therefore if someone wants to go out to the bathroom, has to disturb everyone in the room with the light. A dim nightlight in the bathroom would be a welcome change. In addition, the restaurant at the 4th floor had a poor decor and mediocre food, and at 60 Euros for two main courses and a desert and water I think it is really overpriced. My lamb was likely over its teenage years, and my boys did not care for the hamburger meat either, although they usually love it.
Nice clean reasonable hotel. Recommended it.
I had allergy problems in this hotel and I could hardly breathe. There was also a mouldy mell in the air, I assume that was my problem.
The free and frequent airport bus shuttle was great.
Very easy check in and wonderful staff. Good shuttle service.. Poor service in restaurant. Young and not well trained staff. Good food though and reasonable prices
The airport is very close to this hotel which is part of the reason we selected it; it has a shuttle bus which is convenient as we had only 13 hours between flights home to the states. No complaints
Felt secure and in a safe location compared to some of the city hotels. The staff were unfriendly and miserable. And it was quite expensive compared to the quality.
Friendly staff Free parking Relatively cheap No nearby shops or restaurants Nearest metro station is like 1 km which in rain and cold weather isn't the best experience
Nice Staff, Easy to get to, Clean rooms, Good Breakfast
Good, clean businesslike hotel near a Metro Stop. If you have reason to be in that area and the price is right for you, go for it. Hotel is not where I needed to be and took taxis into town just because I didn't feel like dealing with the Metro. Also, the night I stayed there, a faulty alarm system locked us out of our rooms for that night.
Clean rooms, helpfull hotel stuff, good food, reception oprend 24/7 Far from the City, distant from transport facilities, high prices, expensive breakfast
Bed was ok. Staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. One female manager should not be working in hospitality at all and lied that there was a hairdryer in the room. After I had gone on a wild chase searching everywhere, her haughty response was "if there isn't a hairdryer then there isn't a hairdryer". She did not try to help me let alone apologise for her ignorance. Carpet was not very clean. In my opinion, the metro was not very close as it still took approximately 10min to walk there. I would not stay here again.
Close to function for the evening in Amstel.
there was a light that did not work. hotel staff did not fix. only one towel for two people. no courtesy transportation to to trainstop nor to subway stop.
nothing special That the Bar was closed at 1 a.m. but their were 30 people woh´s wanted to enjoy some drinks
Warm friendly atmosphere. A little far from the center and the action of leidesplein.
panorama view through glass wall of my room on the 6th floor to trdational Amsterdam houses and chanel. The disctrict is really quiet. The hotel is located very close to Van Gogh museum, my favorite place in Holland it takes almost 1 hour to get the hotel afoot from Central station. You need take a taxi
The hotel is very well located: just around the corner fr The Van Gogh museum and the Rijks, which were two of my favorites. the staff was very friendly as well. I would definitely stay there again.
Size of room is excellent for location relative to city center. Property has good ammenties.
Everything in Amsterdam was expensive considering I was using the American dollar which doen't seem to be worth much. The hotel was in a good location for walking to tourist attractions. The only complaint I had was the smoking in the hotel lobby and bar but I guess there are no restrictions in Amsterdam.
A nice hotel with large rooms, good staff and a great location for the Museum Quarter. The hotel is also fully accessible for a disabled solo traveler. As a wheelchair user, it was inconvenient to have to ask each day for the towels to be left down.
For European standards, it was very spacious and was the best hotel I have stayed at for under $150 Euros. Great value, good location and I would stay there again. Hotel room did not have dresser or microwave. (Microwave was available if you go down stairs).
Location was good It was very dirty and smelly. The room had not been properly cleaned- it was dusty, the bathroom was mouldy and there was garbage under our bed. There was a mouldy, musky smell in the entire hotel, from the 2nd floor and above. We paid quite a bit of money to stay in this "4 star" hotel, but the hotel was no more than a 2 1/2 star in my opinion. I would note recommend staying here.
Very nice hotel, well situated nearby a tram stop. Big, clean and comfortable rooms (very quiet). Excellent breakfast, though rather expensive (as was the hotel itself). Would definitely stay there again if my budget allows it ......
Location + comfort
Very nice location, only one block from the nearest tram line, very easy to get around the city. The rooms were also very large with plenty of room and a canal view. The breakfast was very expensive and the bed was not as nice as most NH hotel beds tend to be.
1) early check-in because I needed to sleep after trans Atlantic flight 2) location breakfast was not included in the price of the room
Convenient to RAI. Uncomfortable beds, antique hair dryers, slow and slight erratic elevators, long lines in reception, slow and error-prone room service
Stuff is kind.
Breakfast No communication on parking option next to the hotel (much cheaper than Novotel)
friendly staff very expensive for breakfast
Location was decent if you are travelling to amsterdam arena
No breakfast included in price
Near convention centre Expense
the room looks very nice :) The hotel served a variety of delicious and fresh breakfast. My friends and I enjoyed the stay there! A little far from city center.
it has free parking and there was a very nice, modern design and comfort hotel for all the hotel was far from the city center. internet access and some of favorite pay TV channels was very expensive
Green apples at the reception too cold, and staff took a long time to process an already paid service for 5 people.
There's a complimentary airport shuttle and it's only €5 a person for hotel to airport. Located right next to the tram. Only €7,50 for unlimited 24 hours on the tram and it brings you to the center of town with the Anne frank house or dam square if you get off at the next stop. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Very clean and comfortable bed. The price was a little steep in the restaurant on the 17th floor since the food wasn't amazing but it was pretty good. I recommend the quesadillas if you like cheese bc that was my favorite. Other than that I highly recommend this hotel!
I really liked the staff who were always helpful in all the questions we had. The room was very modern.
-close to a coffiehouse -close to metro and bus -rents bikes and scooters per day -nice comfy rooms -clean -nice showers -On the day we checked out a guy came early to see if we left and continued to do so every two hours or so. Once we left we had forgot a bag and went back up he was going through said bag, and freaked out once he saw us. We just took our stuff and left not wanting to make a big deal. We later found out he stole 30 euro from the bag. Not a large amount, but still be wary. This is true everywhere. Never trust your money alone anywhere.
Great location near train station and city. Good views from the hotel. Room was large and bath was too! Room was dated.
The hotel staff were very friendly and responsive. We were upgraded to a nice room. The breakfast was fantastic, probably the best we had had in a long time. The location is perfect for any visitor and Amsterdam is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Also to note, people in Amsterdam (including all the hotel staff) were extremely friendly and ready to help. Loved it!
Best Staff ever very friendly and welcoming
Other than the location, this place really was just so-so. Most Marriott Courtyards are cleaner, more comfortable, and have much better service. For the price, however, it wasn't a bad deal and proximity to both Amsterdam Centraal and many tourist attractions made up for the lack of aesthetic appeal and customer service. Breakfast was not included and would be an addition $30/person. At that price, it should include a packed bong and tickets to the Van Gogh museum. Rooms were terribly outdated and not in a quaint Dutch way, but in an oddly 80's post-apocalyptic manner that made me question why I wasn't staying at a hostel. Our shower didn't even have a door or a curtain. 5 stars!? Are you kidding me? Europe must max out on a 10 star scale.
Location was great. The room was clean and comfortable. The noise from the street was absurdly loud at all times of the night. The hotel provides earplugs by your bedside.
Nothing The picture they show of the room is not even close to what I had to stay in. My room was old, smelled horrible, most of the lights did not work, and the shower head was broke. This has to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel..
The location is great, opposite Centraal Railway station and you avoid the added cost and hassle of catching a cab to your hotel. Most tourist spots are within walking distance. Staff was great, they let us check in early and check out late which helped us a great deal. Some of the advertised facilities were not available during our stay but it did not really matter to us.
the overall experiance
I spent two nights at the NH Barbizon and I only have positive things to say. It was a group of 5 friends and we couldnt be happier with our stay. The hotel in itself is beautifully decorated. The location is excellent across from Amsterdam Central and all the trolleys, but the best part of the hotel was the staff. Daniel helped my friends and I not only with our luggage, but with advice on getting around the city, recommendations for restaurants, and sightseeing. Overall great experience, and upon my return to Amsterdam I will definitely stay here and hope to get assistance from Daniel!
Room was good, staff and facilies were fine for short stay requirements of an airpor hotel.
Location to airport Limited menu, Breakfast food not very good
Neat Room, Toiletteries, Comfortable, Airport shuttle facility Staff could be more polite and helpful, Basic amenities like TV and internet should be part of the room rent and not charged extra.
Efficient check-in, free shuttle bus and peaceful location not far from Amsterdam center. We can't think of anything not to like.
I liked how clean and new it was. Could not get it warm enough in the room. It seems that the temperature gage only goes to a certain point. Being a new facility you probably still have some bugs to work out. I was called by misstake at 10PM and it woke me up. I had ordered a wake up call at 6:30AM but newer got a call.
Spacious rooms, good breakfast, good location, free parking The hotel has newly opened. They were finishing decoration all those days I stayed there.
quick and good 24h check-in service
I booked 7 rooms this week and from all persons I learned that this hotel is very noisy, two guests did change rooms, one of them was on top floor and he wrote me that this was a good room. Most of the guests will not return to this hotel.
Room was clean Service was poor. They would not take a new guest in until exactly 2 pm when they had limited rooms clean even then due likely to slow or poor cleaning service staff. When checking out, the front desk assigned one person to all check outs (who was a good employee) though others on the front desk appeared to be doing nothing or certainly nothing as important than serving guests.
There is nothing special about this hotel, it´s one of those faceless places to stay. Stuff! At the front dest, 3 out of 4 receptionist seemed my arrival bothered them, because they had to stand up and do their job. They didnt have my reservation in their system, luckily free room was available. Without a word one made reservation and asked for my card. I didnt get usual: checkout time, parking fee, room service, breakfast served from till,...etc. Lack of communication skills described it pretty enought. Shortly after check in, I found out, I was charged extra 70 euros on top of what I was supposed to pay for no reason, at least I was not explained till this day.
Clean, new and good value its not close to the airport, 10 - 15 minutes by shuttle bus
only stayed for 1 night however hotel very clean and staff very friendly. Best thing is the location to the night life
I liked cleanliness of my room. It was quite cold, as shutting the window properly was hardly possible.
Fairly newly renovated, but rooms shows already wear-and-tear. 24H noise from the party street outside. Serves no breakfast.
I liked the location it was very close to everything, I would definetly stay here again.
The location was extremely convenient--just a short walk from the train station. However, this hotel is not ideal for families--it's right in the "green" district and a block away from the Red Light district. If you are comfortable with that (the street it's on is busy and you can small marijuana and loud music abounds, there are a few drunks on the street, etc.) you're only a block away from the Royal Palace. We had to explain a little to our kids what they were seeing and kind of hope that they didn't zone in too much on the window displays in stores on the street. But the room was surprisingly quiet (we had a room for 4), though quite small, had good shower, good television, and the hotel offered free computer use in the basement (though annoyingly not free wifi). Staff was very nice and helpful. Would stay there again, but wouldn't recommend it for families if there are better alternatives in other locations. I wish the hotel offered free wifi. Free breakfast would have been a plus, too.
Very Central in red light district, easy walk from the train station. Computer available downstairs. WiFi was not free, i think for the price it should be.
Location based right near to red light district area. Which is very nice cuz of the location again.... cars cant go thru the street.
was very modern and clean. staff were polite and rooms were clean. would stay here again. good location.
Clean and Position good, staff nice enough. The worst layout of rooms possible, tiny rooms, no door on toilet, smelt of smoke, It would impossible to get out of the Hotel in an emergency.
Close to the train station and within easy reach of all transport The room allocated was in the attic on two levels with the bedroom being accessed by very steep stairs and the bed required crawling into as no room to walk either side.
The finishing touches here are very well and impressively done, and it makes your stay a real pleasure!
Hotel was awesome!! Staying here was an awesome decision. Right next to a metro station, so instant access to city center and everywhere. Hotel was beautiful and everyone was wonderful. Many many amenities and great roof party!
