Location excellent, beds good, smart lobby. This place was dissapointing, huge spacious wide corridors led to average sized rooms, why? Rooms were designed in rather cold unwelcoming style, showers poor, really bad and really expensive cocktails, overpriced breakfast. My advice? Go stay at the Marriot, its cheaper and much nicer overall!
Staff were attentive, friendly and professional.
mooi hotel, goede locatie midden in het centrum!! Mooie schone kamers en vriendelijk personeel.
Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke flawless English, without exception. Hotel decor in corridors was a bit gloomy - all grey walls.
as good as always has beengood location, good rooms, good staff
Comfort of room very good
The rooms are quiet and spacious The Reception staff where always dour, never cheerfull and no houmour
large rooms big soft bed easy to find 5minutes on tram 1 from railway station
hotel is excellent located to visit Gent. -shower needs badly a thermostatic regulated valve. -touristic info on Gent available at the hotel is poor
Breakfast buffet was excellent, location ideal for city visit with kids. Very courteous staff. Hotel restaurant was also very accommodating to our little ones at dinnertime. Our bed was comprised of two singles put together. Oddly, the beds had wheels and there was no way to attach them together or stop the wheels from rolling. Consequently, with a small child between us, it was difficult to keep him from slipping between the two without keeping on one mattress or the other, largely defeating the purpose of the "larger" bed!
Really helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Will definatly be staying at this hotel again. Quite difficult to find hotel parking due to one way systems and pedestrian streets but hotel staff were brilliant with directions.
the location was perfect the atmosphere in the hotel was not so cosy
The location is great. The hotel is right in the center of the city and almost everything you will want to see is within walking distance. The hotel is clean and well kept. It's an international chain and lacks charm.
the bed was really big and room too.
Good location and comfortable. Difficult to find due to road closures, parking under the hotel not easy.
The location was excellent, it was in the old part of the town & was in a beautiful location with the Christmas market just at the side of it. the tourist infomation is 100m (away) and the main tram stop is 200m (approx) away. the breakfast was first class with a selection of a continental or more fimiliar english style breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages) this hotel is in a perfect location for seeing all the attractions of the city.it was clean and comfortable. they also offer free use of a sauna and steamroom.
Central location. Bog-standard, somewhat dirty hotel with unhelpful staff. Impossible to get to by car!!! Don't even try... I parked 100m from the hotel but it took me 1/2 hour to get to the parking, by which time the receptionist had let the car park fill up- despite knowing I was on my way.
Good hotel in excellent location. Ghent is gorgeous and will be even better when it's finished. Easy stroll to all the main tourist sights and brilliant bars.
Central location The bathroom floor and shower base needed a real scrub with bleach, they were dirty and moldy. The breakfast cost 18 euros each which we didnt want to spend so went to the nearby Pain Quotidien for a delicious fresh and much cheaper breakfast. Parking was also impossible as the streets are blocked with roadworks and pedestrian zones, so our GPS took a long time to help us locate the hotel. I think the hotel owners/website should include a map of how to best navigate the city. Too expensive for an ordinary and basic room.
The hotel is convenient for the centre and is in easy walking distance of the main sites of Ghent Check in time is advertised as being 14.00 however, we arrived at 15.45 and our room was not ready,
The central location for wonderful walks exploring this extremely pretty city.
Just about everything -- the Poppi bar, the room, the hotel's architecture, the location, the staff, the food. And what a Mojito! The only thing that we disliked is the elevator that takes you to the Parking Garage. You need to press 2 buttons to get to the correct level, and I often had to try this 3 times to get it right. A 2 star elevator in a 5 star hotel. But, otherwise, the hotel was fantastic.
Nice and clean rooms. excellent location in the historical centre of Gent. The price for the room is extra ordinary and an extra pay of 23,-€ per person per night for an ordinary breakfast buffet is to high. There was nothing what excuses the price in comparision to other hotels.
Great hotel and the staff are very helpfull and a lovely comfortable hotel
Hotel stuff is very good. Location & design of hotel are outstanding.
Our reservation was confirmed and when we arrived at 10 p.m. the hotel manager informed us that the hotel is full and refused to accomodate us referring to a problem with computer program. Hard to believe it could be at Marriot Hotel!!! We had to spend the night looking for another hotel.
very pleassant open entrance of the parking
Location of the hotel. Limited capacity of breakfast facilities on a busy weekend.
Excellent location. Really good breakfasts. Very comfortable room.
window above the room-door towards the court that could not be darkened - and the court was illuminated all night, worn kingsize-mattress with a gradiant towards the middle
The room was beautiful and very modern. Very quiet--the new part of the hotel is in a building about a block away from the original building and is set back from the street. The 15:00 check in time is very strict and the place to leave your bags is out in the open and not very well supervised. Anyone could walk in from the street and take a bag, the front desk wasn't always staffed. This is tough on travelers relying on public transportation. Breakfast was quite expensive (€21 per person for a buffet) so we opted to find food on our own. Unfortunately, very little is open before 11:00, so finding your own breakfast is difficult.
I got a great deal on the booking website, and was very happy with the service and breakfast and room, all very good, and a good location in old town Gent. receptionist did not smile once when booking us in or asking questions.
My first room (no 1) was terrible. I changed rooms and that room (447) was absolutely perfect. Night porte was very friendly 1) Lobby dirty (cigarettes in flower pots etc. beer tins in the garden 2) People smoking just outside the hotel 3) Room airco did not work. Room about 27 degrees celcius. So I had to change rooms 4) terrible music in the lobby and in the bar. The same music went on and on and on. It was clear to me that hotel management was not on top of things.
location, ease of booking, reasonable pricing The staff was not overly friendly. They did not do anything wrong but only did what was strictly necessary. Did not give a warm feeling.
Central location. Very quiet. The drain on the shower was defective so the bathroom flooded.
The location nearby the towncentre. Not easy to find from outside
Cleaness and no noice Breakfast coffee
Excellent hotel, very close to centre. Very relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff.
Comfortable hotel close proximity to the centre, modern facilities ideal for the business trip. Staff very helpful when problems were reported. Lack of attention to detail, the wifi system gave problems as did the door entry system. The lift failed but no messages on each floor to advise guests.
Good position close to the centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable spacious room and excellent breakfast.
The location is excelent. The room we stayd in was in touch with the room of the cleaness (it even had a door conecting booth rooms). So, early in the moorning we couldn´t sleep with the noise of the hotel staff!! Not pleasant, this room should not be rented to anyone!!
Nice location, comfortable, clean room and facilities. Good and generous breakfast although we missed it a couple days due to poor communication at the front desk. We arrived in Ghent very late 11 PM. Reception desk was confused and sent us to the wrong room. It was occupied by naked people who were busy on the bed when we walked in. Amusing for us but very embarrassing for the hotel clerk. He compensated with free beer and apologies. In the excitement he forgot to tell us the breakfast area was located on the 3rd floor. We missed breakfast the first 2 mornings. Another minor irritation was the same dirty coffee cup was left in the room for 3 days, while the bed and everything else was cleaned up. Despite the small gaffes the staff were mostly friendly and helpful and the hotel was nice. We would stay here again.
Fantastic Breakfast in a pleasant room. room was a bit cramped
i love the location the most. the hotel is really nice located by the canel which is nice. everything is great, but the toilet i can smell pee pee which ruin everthing.
I liked the location, the modern style and the breakfast room on the roof. Staying for only one night I felt the room was a bit dark and dismal looking onto some parked cars and not one of the better rooms.Because the weather was very miserable I would have liked the ability/ choice to have had more lights on if I wanted them would have been useful. I would have liked to have been able to check in before 4pm.
Excellent location, very modern. Sound proofing between rooms not good. Room 2.20 is to be avoided as the breadfast room outside portion is right above it, and from 7.30 am people scrape chairs around and one can hear people talking as if they are in the room...! Probably any other room is excellent!
The situation of the rooms with view on the water. To expensive for the quality of the room.
Handy to town centre and good quality hotel
It's a new and supernice hotel located very centrally. The staff is extremely helpfull.
Cool rustic room in a hotel with more modern rooms too. Good sized bathroom. Nearby all the things I wanted to see but not on a main road so it was quiet. My room as pretty cool but a bit dark.
The staff; receptiondesk, breakfast
Access to the town centre external and reception hall appearance very disappointing limited breakfast facilities and small eating area
cetre location no bar
Nothing, the only one positive side is that is in the city centre. The room was very old fashoned and not clean. TV din't work, one window was broken. Even if we didn't need it there is no air conditioning.Breakfast was very poor. I would stay far from this hotel in future.
The location in the hart of the city is great Low level of comfort; old matrass and small pillows; a bit shabby for its price
First of all the location of hotel in perfect. It is near Ghent’s old cc so you don’t have to walk for a long distance to reach the post office historical building or the clock tower. Easy access to the shopping area and restaurants. Hotel staff are very helpful and polite.the room was nice and bath room was somehow large. On top of that opposite to the hotel there was a music school which was amazing for me because all day I woke up on the sound of music. Elevator was so small but I guess it is ok based on the EU standards
in the middle of the centre. Close to everything A lot of street-noise entered the room
Excellent location! Nice room and breakfast for a good price. The towels could be better.
Very central location for the historic district. The hotel was an authentic old building. The bathroom in our hotel room was very small and probably not usable by someone of larger than average size. The dining room was very crowded at breakfast and a lot of people had to share tables.
The staff, specifically the front desk staff, was extremely helpful!
The location was excellent and the room was clean. It was very central to the city.
The location near where I was having meetings
The location was excellent. Right in the heart of the City. The room was warm and comfortable and had a nice view of the Cathedral. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a gd size with an excellent shower. B/fast choice was excellent. Luckily we had a small car that fitted into the underground garage with little fuss. It cost E15 for a night but compared with prices outside was reasonable and we could keep the car safe after check-out the following day. B/fast was E14 pp but again reasonable compared with prices outside. A Receptionist had a bit of attitude whan we wanted to pay by cash because the Hotel had already debited our Credit Card. She quoted "we should of the read the small print". I was not amused!
The room was very comfortable and well-furnished. The view from the room overlooking the square was spectacular.
As will all Ibis hotels, they play awful american pop music on their loudpeakers. It is especially annoying at breakfast.
The location is excellent. Staff was welcomng and helpful. Housekeeping was good. Doors banging early in the morning could be heard too easily.
Location. Quiet. Heating is low in the bedrooms. Very old furniture. Some cracks on the walls
The breakfast was very good. The location was awesome. You are in the heart of the historical center.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The location simply could not be better - right by St Bavo's Cathedral and the Belfry, and just a short walk to the nearest canal and restaurants. Breakfast was better than I've had in hotels with three or four stars, with really strong coffee. The reception area is quirky and appealing with a selection of books in a selection of languages, two sofas on which to sit and read them, and a life-size puppet of an old lady sitting reading (see what I mean when I said quirky). We thought the hotel was excellent value for money. Some people might find the room a bit small (the bed was lovely and large, which made the room look a bit small, in my view). The decor was perhaps a bit old. However, these are really minor "complaints"; the friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the beds, the excellent breakfast and ideal location far, far outweigh these.
It is a lovely hotel. Perfect for visiting Ghent. Our room was cheerful and pleasant, the view spectacular, the staff friendly and helpful Lovely breakfast in a charming breakfast room. Quiet. We were delighted. Thanks. No complaints at all (except is there a way to avoid rain in November?). Our thanks. We would recommend this hotel and hope to stay again (with better weather).
I dealt with the Receptionist and she arranged the keys to be kept in a key safe allowing me a late check in. She gave directions where to park and the route from the car park to the Hotel. Breakfast was good and buffet was constantly being added to as it was used. The staff were pleasant and polite and the general cleanliness was of a high standard. The rooms could do with a makeover and the modernisation of the whole hotel will help. In room facilities like coffee and tea would be a great advantage especially for the late arrivals and having a snack/drinks vending machine on site will be a great success and profitable as well. The Key safe was difficut to operate as the key for the room that I had were a little too large for the Key safe.
Breakfast The room was very poorly decorated and furnished and was next to the hotel.
Staff were really nice and frinedly and helpful, and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Might have gone for an en-suite room.
The city centre close to the hotel. The breakfast was not very rich.
The kindness of the staff and the view from my room.
Close to the old town Nearly everything
Atmospheric, beautifully restored building with antique furnishings. Very quiet and peaceful. Friendly management and staff. Excellent location for historic part of town, bars and restaurants. Mattress a bit uncomfortable.
Characterful historic building, good breakfast and clean. On the wall to the right of the bed there were some squashed dead flies. A little run down for the price.
old charm, garden, breakfast drink-making facilities and fridge were a bonus would have liked more milk to have more than one drink each
This hotel is very central and easy to find. It is a bit dated but it seems to have that old rustic charm to it. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was enough to get you by. The internet is actually done throught a card that you purchase. The cheapest option is a card for 2 hours for €5 but you can only use that card once. There is a cafe just down the road that has free wi fi.
the breakfast, the hospitality, the location are really good. there is no lift.
The great monumental atmosphere Traces of moisture on the wall of bathroom
The very friendly staff, and the quality and quantity of the breakfasts available. The noise from outside in the road was quite disturbing. on a warm night the windows needed to be open, but there was too much traffic noise etc and it was difficult to get to sleep. We had upgraded to the "Blue room" which was very nice with original features, but because it fronts the building it is very noisy and therefore should not have cost the extra 50 euros charged. The staff were extremely helpful and very informative and cannot be faulted! The breakfasts are excellent, the whole hotel is very clean and totally original in its features and only a very short walk from the city centre and all activities. Only the noise from outside spoiled what was otherwise a very plesant stay.
helpful owners convenientley situated. lovely house and bedroom , excellent breakfast.will go again
Spirit of old ages. It is very unusual for me. Maybe for somebody it would be even too old, but I liked it.
The room, especially the bathroom and the breakfast facilties
put us on the 4th floor in the new building and room was larger than expected. Close to everything you want in Ghent. breakfast was great
location, breakfast, freindly service.
The location That it is not a chain hotel but a unique one Room was very small and minimalist
it is ideally placed to explore the historic town centre your breakfast is over priced- it would have been better value going to a local cafe for coffee & croissants!
location half finished carpeting in hall.
Location - breakfast Absence of reasonably sized public rooms
friendly personnel, nice building, very good location none
Room was very small, WIFI should be free of charge
The appearance of the entrance was very grand and impressive, however the newer part out the back and the rooms weren't as nice I was concerned the reception staff didn't have heating that was effective enough to keep them warm. The area may need to be enclosed for them.
The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect for visiting Gent, right around the corner from Gravensteen. The staff is among the friendliest and most helpfull I have encountered. The breakfast was a feast well up to my swedish high breakfast standards. I had everything i needed and more at Hotel Gravensteen, I do hope I will get a chance to come back!
Spacious room with luxury bathroom. Hotel situated on canal side in historic centre, but quiet. Generous choice at breakfast. Staff aimed to helpful, but did not know about current diversion of nearest tram service due to road works.
The room was large with very modern styling. It had plenty of storage space and the enormous bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was beautifully presented with a wide range of choice from the buffet. All staff were very friendly. No complaints whatsoever.
Toprooms have superb view
Very comfortable and modern room
Very friendly and accommodating staff, small quiet hotel. Perfect location, beautiful clean and luxurious rooms.
Very nice hotel. Great big room with canal view. The staff was was very friendly.
Having stayed here before what I can stay is I feel very, very comfortble when I stay here. The rooms are excellent and the staff are all extremely friendly. The hotel is close to the centre and very good restaurants are to be found within a five minute radius. All in all a fine place to stay.
If you want to visit the center of Gent the location of this hotel is perfect. The children can even have a swim on one of the rooftops when it's nice weather. The way to our room wasn't very nice; through the lobby and a hallway, then outside at the back, down an outside stairs, across the entrance of the parking garage, up in an elevator.
Good location, big room, friendly staff and good breakfast. Easy to find and a couple of nightshops in the street. Good value for money. Nothing
relaxing atmosphere nothing
The friendliness and assistance of the staff, the excellent location in centre of Ghent and garage parking facility.
The room is everything you expect from a small continential hotel, large beautiful ceilings, great furniture, huge bathroom. Really liked the hotel and the room. Great spot too for shopping, culture and nightlife.
Personal service, staff couldn't do enough for us very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The hotelier's English was very good and she gave us lots of information of where to visit, pubs, restaurants etc. The breakfast was lovely and we liked the buffet style. I also liked the fact that our car was locked up safe in the hotels garage. A very pleasant stay and we hope to come back. Would like tea and coffe facilities in the room
rather do it yourself decoration . not what I expected. Monica Roberti under standard expected
The car parking was good. No lift and broken banister on top flight of stairs. No drink making facilities. Broken toilet and lack of information about the hotel
Very clean, quiet and private, and excellent value for money. Very attentive staff.
helpful staff, excellent buffet breakfast, BBC channels on TV nothing
The hotel is in a very good position for the centre of Gent.Parking was not to much of a problem either. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent, with a very good choice at breakfast No lift which is a problem for disabled persons. Tends to suffer from traffic and late night revellers noise in the room that we had.
Best class in all aspects, very welcoming, beautiful, style, views, management, confort, renovation, and last but not least the Bed and the Breakfast. Special thanks to the owners, the managers and the operators (Kay and Christian) who will make you feel better than at home.
Everything about our stay at De Waterzooi was perfect. From the minute we were greeted to the moment we left, waving to Kay the owner, we totally enjoyed our stay. The views are spectacular (3 towers from the back balcony and Gravensteen castle while sitting in the living room), the Phara suite really big and filled with everything you would ever need. The best part though is breakfast... on both mornings it was fantastic, easily the best breakfast I've ever eaten. We really hated to leave, and hope to return for more than 2 days next time!
