The room was clean and felt airy, being a tall person it was a pleasure to have a large bath.
Comfortable and well equipped
Good location nice facilities We were on 2 days half board and the set menu was the same on both evenings we had to upgrade on the second evening as my husband is allergic to cheese and there was only one choice of starter without. Also we found the service slow for those on set menu when we upgraded it was much quicker. The restaurant was not busy on either night so this was not the reason.
Good location for the tunnel
Restaurant- staff not very good, dinner- good menu, high prices, but food was not very hot (we did not complain at the time)
Bonus having a pool and proximity to eurotunnel, which was the reason we chose that hotel It was as expected for the price paid and enough for a 1 night stay. Changing room for the pool/gym was very small and lockers did not work and it seems that on a Fri evening many locals use the facilities
Very friendly staff and good service. The swimming pool. The breakfast was not as good as expected
The surroundings were very relaxing. two minutes from town but backing onto fields We found the swimming arrangements very formal and strict. not very relaxing
Hotel comfortable and warm, food good especially evening meal.Hotel is very convenient to The Tunnel and Cite Europe but is in peaceful location.I Enjoyed the swimming. The pool was very clean and warm and staff were excellent. As we are of a certain age(69 and 70) we found the seating in our room was uncomfortable it would be nice to have had a couple of easy chairs
Close to cap blanc nez and gris nez.
Absolutely fabulous. From the minute we entered the hotel, we were made to feel extremely welcome by each and every member of staff that we came across. Would not hesitate whatsoever to stay again and to recommend to everyone I know looking to stay in Calais. The only problem was the lukewarm temperature in the room. Having said that, I telephoned Reception to ask if I could in any way turn the heating up. A member of staff came to try and bought with her a portable heater which did the trick.
Room was very comfortable. The welcome and staff were first class. The buffet breakfast was rather expensive although the breakfast room looked very inviting.
The room was large and comfortable and being at the back it was quiet Would stay again but not have food at hotel. Had dinner the first evening but thought the food below expectations and price high. Breakfast was only average but again expensive
The location of the hotel and the parking facilities in front
We had a larger room this time and it was very comfortable andwell appointed. N/A
A very special place. Old fashioned shabby chic with egyptian cotton bedsheets to die for. Near to good restaurants and the beach but you can also walk down to the shopping area quite easily. A lovely spacious room with a sitting area and flat screen TV with BBC channels if thats what you want. There was nothing we didn't like. Resident dog 'Zeus' is a charmer. We were able to drink late in the cosy bar.
Friendly staff, fantastic buffet breakfast, clean room. Restaurant next door pricey but quality menu.
The stay was v. brief but I particularly liked the rather old fashioned style of the hotel (although facilities were completely modern)
Excellent breakfast, attentive staff, warm comfortable bedrooms, the best bed I have slept in in France ! Showers that work Loved the character of the place
Beautiful room, furniture and excellent bedding Room was cold
hotel was clean, the staff were very friendly & helpful, hotel bar & restaurant was nice & overlooking the beach, prices very reasonable too only downside was we asked for more pillows but they never arrived
excellent shower and good breakfasts
hotel was quite noisy.i.e other guest going to and from rooms.area looks run down.
The room stank of cigarette smoke, so much so that we had to have the window open all the time. Apart from that, comfortable and well placed for a stopover before the ferry home though.
Convientent to find, location on beach and location for ferry. Staff very friendly, with excellent English Good resturant Room was small, but ok for 1 night
Good location - convenient for ferries
Location to the beach and acceptance of pets staying at the hotel who were very welcome. None
The very friendly waiter in the restaurant Despite this beeing a non smoking hotel the room smelt of smoke.
Friendly staff, good restaurant No wifi, hot water had to be run for 15 minutes before it became hot. Not very good for the environment. No hot/cold indicators on taps so did not know which way to turn them. Chipped and durty paintwork. Tiles in bathroom painted
We stay at this hotel 3/4 times each year, including at the end of May a family celebration for 3 days with anything up to 14 of us staying at the hotel. We always find the staff very helpful and friendly, the rooms very clean, facilities in the rooms good and generally the hotel is excellent value for money and well above average for a 2 star hotel. Parking outside the room is a bonus. Proximity to the sea, local restaurants and cafes excellent Restaurant nice, good atmosphere especially for a group, meals adequate but dont expect cordon bleu. This time we had a dessert of crepes with sugar - arrived in less than a minute, luke warm, brown sugar, inedible but we were not charged for them. One other minor critiscism - guests leaving early always seem very noisy - sound insulation to the passage is not good
The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff were absolutely lovely. The room was very pretty (we had the "Rome" room), the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. We were on the second (top) floor and did not find it noisy at all (others have said it was). There are some very good restaurants in Calais about 15-20 minutes' walk from the hotel. Overall we had a lovely time and would definitely stay there again. The only complaint we had was that the chap who checked us in offered to bring breakfast to our room the next morning, but it didn't arrive and we ended up going down for it. We weren't particularly bothered as it was clearly a genuine mistake and the only off note in an otherwise very enjoyable weekend.
friendly welcome, great location, very comfortable. Just what we needed after a long day. would use again
The owner was very friendly and informative about things to do in the area. The family room was very nicely decorated and very comfortable, my kids loved it.
Unusual family room with the 2 bedrooms seperated by a bathroom which you had to walk through to access the 2nd bedroom. No tv in the main bedroom, poorly stocked mini bar....
Excellent guest house, which is not necessarily evident from the website. No drink facilities in our room, however we learnt that the previous guests had in fact stolen the coffee maker!
Beautiful house - extremely friendly - everything was spotless - just wish we had been staying longer !
This is a beautifully restored and stylish old house with lots of personal touches in the themed bedrooms and in the lounge where we were served a tray of tea and coffee. The owners were such a nice couple - extremely welcoming and it was more like staying in a friend's home than in a hotel. We will definitely return there soon. Rather ugly bright blue patterned staircarpet to first floor which didn't really match the rest of the elegant, cream decor of the house. Maybe they were offered a cheap deal!!
Fantastic room, beautifully appointed, as was the bathroom. Thoroughly recommend the hotel. Madame Bisschop is a very welcoming hostess and has made all the rooms we saw (3 out of the 4 available) stunning. Breakfast was delicious, (real coffee for the first time during our stay in France this time! ) and beautifully presented. This small hotel has real class. We shall be recommending it. Nothing. Even the parking, which is on the street outside the hotel, was fine. (No comments on website yet about this hotel)
The staff were delightful, nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a very pleasant breakfast sitting overlooking the garden, a lovely calm start to a pre-Christmas shopping spree.
It is a wonderful house, to stay there made you feel a part of France. It is really a magical space and the hospitality is charming and superb. We felt very looked after and yet perfect discretion was kept for a romantic few days away. I dont really understand why there is ambiguity over whether you pay for breakfast. You do. But that said, it is completely excellent and I have never relaxed so much over a hotel breakfast. Complete comfort was felt. On the second morning, one of glorious late autumn sunshine, Jean-Michel took the table onto the patio and gave breakfast in the garden. It was completely delightful. Also breakfast is very flexible, both days we were very late, but we were never rushed and always made to feel welcome. This really was the best.
Hotel was in a good position, the staff very very helpful and pleasant, very welcoming none
Location for bars & restaurants
The room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was good, the staff were good, the location was very good!
very close to some fantastic restaurants,a market and a fish market.plenty of parking.staff very helpful and hotel itself spotless. fair amount of traffic noise
The staff was friendly and helpful at all times. The food was surprisingly good. Ideally based for those travellers catching the ferry to the UK.
Well placed for an early ferry departure or a late arrival in france. rooms basic but have all necessary facilities. Car parking arrangements are a bit hit and miss.
Convenience of location to the ferry, restaurants and bars nearby, the room was clean & very efficient service from the staff.
location the carpet in the corridor are very stained and dirty not a very good impression
The friendly staff , Cheap price and the location of the hotel for shops, Bars and restaurents.
good location, close to bars and restaurants
nothing it was old ans smelt of damp
Central location Nothing to do with the hotel itself, but late on Saturdaynight the local clubs had noisy patrons leaving at 03-00. Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel to avoid this.
My stay at the hotel was for 1 night only so I dont think I experianced the full features but the best feature by far was the friendlyness of the staff, polite and helpfull. The whole hotel is in desperate need of full renovation and modernisation in all areas. Parking is expensive and very limited. What appears to be a permanent fun fair outside the hotel is very noisy till very late.
Fantastic location. Lovely balcony room overlooking the square. Very charming Night Porter (possibly the manager/owner), who made us feel very welcome as we went out for the night and saw us totter back across the square, having the door open with a broad smile. Personable.
Very handy for all shops and resturants toilet and shower room needs some attention
Convenient location for ferry port pleasant staff & great breakfast
helpful staff, good location very noisy at weekend till 2am
found with ease (opposite market square) clean affordable room continental breakfast was good although the coffee could have been hotter but hey...no big deal for the price, I found this hotel 2 star, in price 3 star in value
Restaurant menu needs revising many of the items on the menu were not available
24 hour manned reception.
dinner offers food very good mould on wall in bedroom television located too high up to view not a good reception on english channels room needs upgradeing
very close to eurotunnel, nice enough rooms, lovely breakfast, staff friendly, stayed twice now so pleased with hotel
We came late and slept as we were driving early the next morning
Convinient to the Port. staff good nice bar
This hotel is very good value for money. the room was clean tidy and basic and thats all you pay for. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the third time i've stayed here.
The hotel staff were just about the best I have ever experienced at a motel style hotel, the food was great, well presented and varied choice available.
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable hotel close to the ferry port. Evening meal good in hotel restaurant. Ideal for overnight stay before ferry crossing. We did not have buffet but did note that if eating late in evening, choice of buffet items was limited.
Excellent Restaurant Rooms small but confortable, good location
Previous occupants had smoked in room, and stale cigarette smoke could be smelt, which was most unpleasant.
The room was clean and quiet and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. We had a very good dinner in the restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was a little warm for our liking, think it was next to the boiler room as the wall was hot! We felt the wine was a little overpriced but they were small niggles and did not spoil our overall enjoyment.
easy access to ferry port
Friendly atmosphere and food excellent
check in easy. parking secure. lots of hot water. everything we needed was at hand in the room
Convenience to the ferry, simple, clean room. The trundle bed provided the triple. The electricity went out while dining. We paid the waitress, but we saw several who did not pay and left. I lost the key in the dark, found it and sent it by mail to the hotel. We were in room 31. We were informed it was a triple, the trundle bed was small and cramped, not suitable for an adult, but we used it. It was dark outside getting to our room. Had to use a flashlight to find the keyhole. Nice staff, not much English, but it is France.
The staff, who were very friendly and helpful. Value for money. Breakfast. Nothing
it was convienient for the ferry port. there were no coffe/tee making facilities in the room. Although the rooms were clean and tidy there was a significant over use of disinfectant which in some circumstances could have caused people with asthma breathing difficulties, as we had to leave the windows open for a significant time as it was quite unbearable. based on the campanile we stayed at prior to arriving at the hotel residence du golf we were extremely disappointed and surprised that it cost much more as the facilities were basic and would border on hostel accomodation and not a two star hotel.
Very good location overlooking the sea. Room was warm, comfortable and spacious. Good value for money. Reception staff helpful and polite.Food at restaurant next door excellent and very reasonable. Nothing negative to say.
It was a comfortable hotel for a 1 night stop over No Complaints
easy location for the ferries.Enjoyed a walk along the pier before catching the ferry
The cooking & fridge facilities combined with a mini kitchen
Nice accomodation very convenient to Calais ports/train. We had 5 rooms - everybody was happy. Good value for money.
Great location, staff friendly.multi channel TV,restaurants nearby, inexpensive,,,,only problem for me was width of single bed otherwise OK
The view of the port. Some of the food at breakfast was unappetising - burnt.
well located, closed to restaurants, nice welcome N/A
Helpfulness of reception No Wi-Fi
Room comfortable and warm on a cold night.Bathroom facilities excellent Hotel is being renovated and bare plaster walls etc not exactly welcoming. Lack of tea and coffee making facilities a dissappointment
The staff were friendly, excellent location, wasnt noisy, very clean and comfortable. Great value for money.
Very friendly and helpful staff Clean renovated old room, modern bathroom Generous breakfast During the season the parking could be a problem
Very helpful and courteous staff. The location was ideal, the adjacent park very beautiful; breakfast was excellent! I am sure facilities will be much improved after their in-process work on the building! No hair dryer or shower, only iron tub w/ handheld wand.
Hotel was spotless, especially the bathrooms, which are very nice. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurts and bread and croissant. I don't know why he took the booking if he didn't have the rooms we requested.
We will stay there again. It suited our needs perfectly as a place to stay for one night in central Calais. It is very nice being opposite the park and we liked having a small balcony. The yard in which we parked our car is secure and private. The owner, Benoit Grancier is charming and very helpful. Very close to tunnel/ferry. The shower stall needs a curtain or the shower head should be repositioned as the water drips onto the bathroom floor. There should be a thick bathroom mat for this purpose and also to stand on when leaving the shower. Thicker and larger towels would be nice too. A toilet brush should be available to the guest. The TV does not have a remote control.
Do not be put off by the outside its been refurbished excellent value for money
seemed very run down
generally claen & comfortable beds a little uncomnfortable
convenient location, close to shops and restaurants It is not inviting hotel with a warm feeling one would like.
Access to the town and short distance from Eurotunnel
it was very clean and all staff spoke good english when in the bar it was to quite ,some background music would be nice
Clean,comfortable easy access to port
Nothing, really... The hotel is in decay, really poor and unconfortable.
night porter service no tea making facilities in the room. We would have paid extra to get them.
Staff were very helpful & good location of hotel with easy parking
Clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and friendly, helpful staff.
Very convenient for town and beach, bedroom clean but old fashioned, and quite small. Very delapidated exterior.,very dated inside. Could do with a refurb.
Very welcoming, good breakfast
The owners were charming and had spent a lot of time and energy decorating our roo in Moroccan style. Very clean and comfortable. Restaurants in a square around the corner but all were bad tourist traps. better to go further afield if you are looking for proper french food.
This was a teriffic surprize. Both my wife and I enjoyed our stay. I would enthusiasticly recommend this hotel.
Most wonderful host, room was beautifully designed. We stayed in the Bombay room. Nothing
the suite was creatively decorated to the theme of the name (Bombay Suite = indian decorations and music). we were made to feel very welcome and it had a relaxed atmosphere. it was quite and cosy and could be romantic. We could not book in before 4.30 and this was a bit of a problem as we were on foot and had to carry our luggage around all day until we could check in. the outside of the building looks somewhat ambiguous but inside is amazing!! a gem in the midst of a grey Calais town centre.
Nice room, nice bathroom arranged with lots of taste. All is very clean, it was a pleasure to stay there. Little details that make pleasure, such as nice candles, good smelling towels... Very friendly person that holds the hotel. All goes together, nothing to complain about! Nothing!
The owner and hostess was extremely friendly. She greeted us with a charming smile and an unbelievable amount of patience for our butchering of the French language. The rooms were surprisingly large and wonderfully decorated with an overwhelming attention to detail. Even the toilet roll holders fit the themes of the respective rooms. It was comfortable and had a decent selection of Television programs. The hotel is situated in a quiet area but at the same time about a 2 minutes drive from the Ferry Port to Dover. Furthermore, it is in 5 - 10 minute walking distance from a cluster of restaurants, which boasted a variety of foods from different countries. All in all, the hotel stay was a beautiful surprise and is worth a trip alone.
Great little B&B, very central. We had the Agadir suite which is huge. Great attention to detail in Moroccan decor. Sandrine, the proprietress, is very friendly and welcoming. Parking in street is no problem. If you are stopping off in Calais without children, then this is a must!
The decor was beautifully done right down to the last detail. The food was great. Fantastic atmosphere and 10/10 for all the small touches. I loved it and would definately stay again.
I totally enjoyed the themes. Well done, I would certainly stay there again.
Sandrine made us feel really welcome and was really accommodating when we arrived with an unexpected extra visitor. The rooms we stayed in were absolutely amazing. I would definately recommend it for couples who want to experience something a bit different.
It's was clean and good location Reception was crap.door was locked overnight and when ring the bell no one respond and we trying to call reception number no one answered. Also this is happening with others people the night we are leaving hotel I take them to police station with my car mybe some one help them
Friendly, clean, good value
The staff were especially friendly, the breakfast was wonderful. And it was easy to find. Coming from England we also truly appreciated the parking that was plentiful and near the hotel. And it was near by everything we needed.
Well maintained and clean. Breakfast good. Shower not very good though, not much hot water.
Food in restaurant attached is very good
The hotel has an excellent restaurant We paid for parking, which turned out to be a garage not near the hotel.
The room was warm in spite of very cold weather and the bed was comfortable. Whilst quite basic, the facility was fine for a short stay. The toilet was a chemical one (I think) which was very noisy when flushing and adjacent rooms' toilets could be heard at night.
It is ideally situated for the tunnel and ferries The hotel can best be described as 'Basic". No frills and just about enough room to move. Poor breakfast.
This hotel is in a busy district of Calais next to a roundabout and near the port. It is surrounded by cafes and restaurants which we found convenient but this did make it fairly noisey when sitting on the balcony. Our room was compact with a very small shower room. However it was double glazed which blocked out most of the noise and we had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was excellent. Overall it served it's purpose well as a stop-over prior to catching the ferry. We would use again.
Well located for Ferrys, pleasent friendly staff. Fine for couple of days. Attached Restaurant looks A++, but didn't get chance to sample. Value for money. Would re-book on next trip. Micro-bore plumbing in toilets, can be noisey in use. Stairs to rooms fairly narrow. Overall - minor issues.
Great value for money. Brilliant location. Excellent breakfast. Facilities were more than adequate for a stopover stay.
I organised for myself and 5 friends to stay at Hotel Balladins as it was the nearest hotel to attend the Calais "Swamp Blues" festival at le Centre Culturel Gérard Philipe. For our needs, the hotel was perfect. Clean, low cost, very modest, but all that we needed. The hotel staff over the weekend were noticeably pleasant and helpful (and spoke good English!). We also liked being able to buy a decent coffee in the breakfast room without having a whole breakfast. Booking was easy on-line. My friends commended me for finding Hotel Balladins Calais. I will try to book their again next year! Just suggestions: Let people use the brekfast area as a lounge/meeting room during the day - perhaps a corner with more comfortable chairs and a TV. Alternatively, use the entry hall area more creatively. Small suggestions - they won't stop us staying!
This is the first time we have stayed at this hotel - the reason being that our usual hotel was fully booked. As an alternative we were pleasantly suprised. It was clean, comfortable and the staff were extremely polite and welcoming. We would not hesitate to come here again. Very good value for money No kettle to make a drink and no extra pillows!
The breakfast was good value for money One of the rooms smelt of smoke
Again, we were staying in room No 226 on June 10, same as June 8, 2010. So, all good points were still the same - cosy, comfortable, warm - could be chilly during summer nights and early mornings, but the room heater solved this issue. Despite the duty manager told us on June 6 (upon our check-out) how to log onto their Balladins internet "Eucopia", we could not make it work again ! We followed the duty manager's instruction on how to log onto internet, yet, their Eucopia postmaster never cared to send us (our mobiles) the password for us to log onto internet ! - no matter how many times we tried, we never received their reply with password for log-on !
convenience to port and location to centre
friendliness of the staff No mirror in the bedroom!
It was warm on a cold night. The receptionist was pleasant. We could park the car close to the entrance. It was value for money We did struggle to locate the hotel when we came off the ferry from England. My wife would have liked a lift to reach the first floor as she has a painful foot at the moment
I was charged more than quoted when I booked on your web site.
easy to find and central location, good description how to find hotel
Staff were extremely friendly and for a 1 star hotel, the cleanliness and comfort was exceptional. Overall a very enjoyable experience for a stop over.
Cleaniness of the hotel and its value for money
Clean, convenient, friendly, inexpensive. Good breakfast
A friendly clean budget price hotel right in the centre of Calais which means you can splash out a bit on an excellent dinner! The bar opposite can be a bit noisy as due to the smoking ban, everyone stands outside!
Clean and well presented. Very helpfull staff. Bar opposite kept us awake until 3 am. Breakfast was late serving.
good size room, friendly staff, very central location and very close to the port, fantastic shower :)
Used the Hotel as stop over before driving to Germany. Hotel offered good value for money, Used Garage.
Touring the local area
The location, close to bars and restaurants. Television, have stayed previously and had acess to uk channels, on this stay no acess to uk television channels.
ideal location for town centre nightlife, close to beach bathroom was very small and breakfast was overpriced
Local to Eurotunnel Door lock system (code numbers)
