Clean with a large bathroom
Coffee service was terrible, in Chinatown
On this trip I just needed a bed to sleep on, and a shower & toilet to use, and Hotel 91 definitely met those needs. While not the fanciest of places, or the most elegant decor, but the staff were very friendly and helpful, the bed was quite comfortable, and the plumbing was all in good working order. The room and public areas were all clean, too.
The hot water took a little long to get hot, but I also blame that on the weather - had it not been ~5 - 10 degrees outside, I wouldn't have been as desperate for a properly hot shower. The room door also felt a bit flimsy, but it kept the sound and cold out so that's more of a "feeling" thing than an actual complaint.
No problems at all good location had a great stay, reception was helpful great price a lot of good food close by. Got to do alot of shopping only thing was parking was far away but its New York what can you really expect. Thank you.
The value for the money
Kinda in a depressed area
Clean beds and updated bathrooms for an great price. Hotel 91 is less than 5 minutes from a subway station (and be sure to get coffee at the "12 corners" coffee shop on the way.) All in all, Hotel 91 was exactly what we needed: an inexpensive but comfortable place to recharge as we explored NYC.
The neighborhood is not very central, so it is ideal if you are looking to have a place to sleep and leave your bags as you are visiting the city. Don't plan to come back to your room and change before dinner, though.
Wifi was spotty at best. Several times I needed to go to the reception desk and ask them to reset it. Sometimes they told me to just use it in the lobby. One evening, the desk clerk told me to wait until morning. When I said that two other desk clerks had reset the wifi on previous days he rudely expressed skepticism and demanded their names. When I obviously did not have their names he demanded precise descriptions of them. Even for New York, the Kayak-discounted price of this hotel was far too high for the value received. I have stayed in New York many times and will never stay at Hotel 91 again.
subway accessible, hotel room was tidy, no complaints
Very noisy with trains passing by every 5 minutes. Bad views from the window. Old furniture. Poor heating in rooms. Tiny desk. TV remote does not work.
great location, very clean for a good deal
Hotel was always clean, staff were very helpful (changing $10 into 10 x $1 bills on first night for vending machine; booking taxis, arranging late check out)
Lighting in room was adequate at best - two light switches but only one light, one had been removed? Vending machines weren't consistent, some would only accept 25c coins at times, then only accept $1 bills... Lack of safe in hotel room or reception area
The beds are comfortable, the room in general was clean. The staff was courteous.
Noisy from the bridge outside, but bearable. Did not like wall to wall carpet which looked kind of dirty or had a dirty color to start with. Elevator was at times very slow.
Room design, price.
The room had no windows and therefore was lacking fresh air. Also the hotel is situated in China Town, the district is quite dirty and there's a stinky fish market nearby, but the hotel itself is much better than the district.
The price couldn't be beat. If you are in the city for a couple of days, this is the place to stay, and you still have money for your shopping.
