Location and affordable
having experienced another cabin-type hotel that are only enlarged capsules and only separated via a screen from the general corridor, OtM-Kawawaki's step up to mini rooms with your own private door and (albeit small) room was a big bonus for privacy, security, as well as noise transmittal to/from other guests. The room itself was roomy for what it was, and comfortable if you're use to other Japanese hotel beds, and had just enough accommodations for outlets and controls for room. First floor restaurant and check in areas were comfortable and inviting, and the staff made you feel welcomed. The whole Marks has a very homey environment and enjoyed my short stay.
as on par with other Japanese hotels, the bedding is very firm so that might be an issue for some, but I'm getting slowly use to it. Same goes with the pillow, overly firm, and I should have asked / rented a 2nd one. While the overall condition of the hotel was good, there were areas that either seemed unfinished (like the short entry area in the room from the door the the bed was just bare concrete vs carpeted like the rest of the hallway was) or general wear and tear that wasn't (yet) addressed (like scrape marks on the shower walls where some minor black marks were visible along the wall). The sinks while clean, were low and seemed to be set up for a stool or seat, but no seat was present, which made it a bit awkward for a taller person to use. I also didn't see a stock of supplies (cotton buds, after shave, moisturizers, etc) that I've seen in another similar hotel in the sink area. Lastly, although the hotel offered pajama tops, they were all of 1 size, so if you're not of 'typical' Japanese stature, you were out of luck. Although a lengthy list, all these were minor inconveniences vs 'bad' items, however, so doesn't really detract from the overall experience very much.
Very friendly! Craft beer on tap is a nice touch too! I wish I could have been there for one of the live music nights, I will have to go back. It's so close to HND anyway.
All was fine, just other customers are sometimes leaving behind the shower rooms in a quite untidy state, but thats not really the hotels responsibility, they cant clean up behind everyone.
The staff were super friendly and the amenities were all provided. Would highly recommend! We only stayed a night but could have stayed for more.
