The hotel has lots of character, the lobby looks like the lobby of an old movie theater. The room also was furnished in period style, with a nice view. Very conveniently located near Market Street.
I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!
This used to be a Kimpton Hotel and still has the cool factor that Kimpton brings to all its properties.
Sadly, maintenance has waned since the hotel was sold to an investment company.
Rooms were small but clean. Hotel was well kept for its age.
Location is in a difficult side of town. Hidden costs such as a $22.00 tax. We made them take it off. $59.00 for parking we were not told about the cost. Then our account was charged other amounts we had no idea what they were.
Location - excellent, v close to Union Sq/restaurants etc; staff - friendly/helpful
Room - small, low on facilities eg no kettle for tea making; noisy pipes; hotel 'resort charge' of 20+ per day for wifi and coffee station in lobby is bit cheeky for tech capital of the world with over 100+ starbucks in city
Lovely spacious rooms and bathrooms, detailed and comfortable, great, and I mean great coffee in the lobby for mornings. The kind of hotel where you seat in the lobby and watch activity and relax. Just wonderful experience. Close to union square and Powell and market shopping and activity.
It was perfect really!
Staff were friendly. Lobby was nice. Close to union square. I quite liked te location.
Room wasn't that clean, dust balls and items under the beds. Beds very soft as mattresses were old. Bathrooms looked very tired and were cramped. Wallpaper scuffed up badly. Needed remodel. Also there are a lot of homeless in this area, I got woken up every morning in the early hours with neurotic screaming and shouting from people sleeping outside.
Bed and quietness
Location not the best, but it is San Francisco...
Great ambiance, very noce room & amenities, great restaurant & bar, helpful staff. All good, only exceptions- pricey parking, scary corner of town.
Pricey parking, scary corner of town.
Overall the hotel was a good value. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice enough. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel did waive the additional $20 hotel fee when we informed them of our experience, which was nice.
There was a crack in the sink in the bathroom. The decor was a little gaudy. The worst part of the stay was having to listen to the people in the adjacent room scream and cry from 1:15am to 2:30am. We called the front desk a little after 1:30am and security did show up around 1:45am, but that didn't stop these people from continuing for another 45 minutes.
Quick in and out. Comfortable bed.
All the extra hidden charges. Said wifi was free but wasn't. The sink wouldn't drain. And the tub/shower was filthy. It didn't feel 'luxery' at all.
Facilities in extremely poor condition. Rooms and lobby very musty, dated, carpet was consistently sticky. Extremely small rooms, small bathrooms, small beds.
Location, room size, staff, and the restaurant Jasper's had great food and was very convenient.
There was Black MOLD growing all around the bathroom ceiling and someone else's clothes were underneath a chair in the room.
Great area. Nice being so close to union square. I would stay again.
Whatch out! They have a $20 fee that is added on after you book for coffee in the morning, news paper, and bike rentals.
Beautiful art deco building and lobby are aged but maintained and give a romantic and intimate vibe. Central location, competitive rates, and onsite as well as nearby eating options are plusses. The staff were excellent and helpful, enhancing the atmosphere.
Valet parking was not cheap, as is normal in San Francisco.
Crisp cotton , extremely clean beds and room amenities including the comfortable robes and in room bar
Parking cost of $50
