Location, clean rooms
The staff were very helpful. I liked that they called our room to make sure that we were satisfied. I have never had that happen before! Access to the roof top was really nice.
We liked it all! Being from Europe a small room is not an issue. Thank you!
Perfect location. Walking distance to all the bars. Connecting restaraunt open 24 hrs. Roof top had a gorgeous view of the city.
Online they say queen beds but I'm pretty sure they are full size. It's run down which explains why it's so affordable. The front desk didn't return our bag that contained all of our alcohol to us. We had brand new bottles. Don't know if it was a mistake or if it was something shady but it still shouldn't have happened.
Great location downtown. Very Clean. Staff was the BEST! Loved the nostalgia of this old place
Valet parking makes it possible to pull up in front of this tightly located storefront style hotel and turn the parking headaches over to a very professional group of young people. The entire staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. The antique elevator takes some getting used to and the stairs are surprisingly complicated, but the whole place is well maintained, giving you the feeling you've stepped back in time. A 24 hour restaurant and bar is attached, so although being DT is a pain, once you're there you can forget about the chaos outside and have a nice snooze.
Getting to it was a challenge, it's an old hotel in an old city with narrow streets and a vibrant night scene. No good place to wait for the valet The rooms are fairly small and they've packed a lot into them, but it works. Of course all the inconvenience is the reason It's relatively cheap!
Elevator is scary old and a hassle. Very loud at night Window ac units
old , very nice building with a century old elevator that gives it a nice touch. liked the rooftop view and the 24/7 dinner/bar is a good addition to the hotel. simple and functional. great value for money.
I'm not sure I didn't like anything. my expectations were not high. And reality met, and sometimes, exceeded my expectations. The Hotel IS simple and basic, but hey, a clean shower and a clean bed is all you need when on the road
I like the location, friendly staff and the price of it all. I had a good stay here and I would not mind staying here again the next time I visit. I have to complaints and it was all me and my girlfriend needed.
I loved the access to the rooftop! Such an amazing view. Hands down one of my favorite experiences in San Diego so far! Great location. A special thanks to the staff for being so friendly, and Tonya for selling the room! Diner next door is also brilliant! Will be back soon! Thank you.
Great location Older Character of the Hotel including the really slow elevator. Front counter staff were very helpful and courteous
It's a place to wash up and sleep for the night, the room didn't encourage me to stay there for any length of time.
The room was small, old and noisy. The sheets had a funny smell and the bathroom didn't even have a tub. Instead there was a drain right in the middle of the bathroom. I couldn't sleep because of all the noise that I thought was coming from the air conditioning unit. When I turned it off there was still noise coming from who knows where. As I was checking out the valet lost the car keys for the couple who was before us. I'm not sure how this place even received over 3 stars
Everything! The old elevators are slow but the best! It's like being in another time! The restaurant/bar next door is EXCELLENT! Room service was outstanding and I could walk everywhere.
I loved everything. Just know the rooms are very small.
It is hard to beat the location! The hotel was close to many good restaurants and bars! We were only there for one night, so that was really the only upside.
Since we were only staying for one night, I didn't mind paying a little less for a hotel. However, that was the wrong decision this time. The bathroom was one of the dirtiest bathrooms that I have ever stayed in. There was long hair all over the floor, towels, and tub. Also, the drain in the shower was so clogged; it took about 30 seconds for the tub to have standing water-nasty.
It was fine. Clean. Staff were very nice.
It was fine. Just fine. But. The room was so so small as was the bathroom. I guess understandably as it's an old building. That said, I would have been uncomfortable sharing the room with another person due to size. And I spent most of my time at another friends hotel. I wouldn't' be upset to stay here again, but I wouldn't choose to if that makes sense. So basically just know that it's small. Maybe not all the rooms are. But if it's an issue for you, I would absolutely call and talk to them before booking.
Historic building, great rooftop, amazing view
Elevator is historic (very slow) and hard to operate if you have luggage with you. Very close to several night clubs so it can get kind of loud.
Staff are friendly and helpful
The noise in the room itself and the sound from dripping water in the bathtub really disturbed my sleep. Even though free wifi is available, I could not access it from my room. Finally the room and bathroom are both so small
staff was friendly and helpful
The location was wonderful and staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs.
The room and bathroom were extremely small.
I liked that the hotel had a restaurant on the premises .
I disliked how my room was right above the restaurant. The bar is open 24hours and traveling with small children that loud noise ALL NIGHT made it impossible to get any rest!
I had no view but the bed was great. Rooftop view was awesome. The California burrito was amazing don't think it was worth $15 but still bomb.
The first room I had the cold water knob didn't work, u had a little view of downtown (just the street corner) and when I called front desk they sent someone to see the shower, and he said just "play with it it'll work". It didn't so I asked for a diffrence room and the front lady said she would get me a room with a view and she did... a view of a brick wall looking into someone else's apartment. The second shower worked but the shower head was too high and it was very small.
Small room but was expected
The front desk clerk addressed the problems, though he oddly never apologized for them. The location is good.
First the room keys didn't work. Then they fixed them, and the room was occupied. Then they gave us a new room. Then the printer (the only one) in the "business center" would not work due to lack of toner. They couldn't replace the toner, so they printed my file at the front desk. The hotel is old, and the rooms are small, but I knew that going in. I did not like the other problems, however.
He worked security and personally escorted my friend and I to our room to make sure we were safe. He went above the call of duty to make sure our intoxicated selves made it to our room. Thank you again Enrique!
Valet parked was a nightmare.....no where to wait for valet...Had to park in middle if street...they definitely needed more valet people on Saturday night. Overall the hotel was great and convenient to all the restaurants and bars.
It's ancient, scary old...
-Convenient location -Historic charm -Staff was friendly
- Major plumbing leak in my originally booked room that leaked into the bedroom carpet - Very small rooms (I'm 5'10 and I had to sit at an angle on the toilet because my legs were against the bathroom wall) - Outdated bathrooms and maintenance issues
Staff, especially front desk, could be a bit more service oriented. The ancient elevator, with a manually-operated cage, is a huge pain when carrying anything.
Good location. Locate right in the middle of downtown.
Small facilities. It may be an old hotel but it was poorly maintained.
Location and staff.
Age of hotel, elevator, size of room, window AC units. My AC unit froze up and had to move rooms. First time I have dealt with a window AC unit since I was a boy. Rooms were extremely small. Evidently room size is what was available 100 years ago. Location was great, staff was very helpful. This hotel is not for everyone, not for me. I will not stay here again. Nothing personal I did not have an overall positive experience. I know there are some people who love this hotel.
took over an HOUR to get my car from Valet and manager just stood behind desk not helping the full lobby of people who were waiting.......... not acceptable by any means.. DEFINITELY not worth the $20 parking
Location to the Gas Lamp Quarter
Very noisy. Rooms were very small, and the building next door was some type of nightclub where the people were loud and boisterous until the wee hours of the morning. They cater to the under 30 crowd. Would never stay here again.
The only good thing is the friendly and helpful staff and location is near nice restaurants and shops.
I paid almost $1000 for 4 nights for a cramped room and a rinky dinky elevator! Price is steep for the kind of room I got.
